A roll brake to prevent relative movement between a pair of rolls, one or both of which may be driven, in a coil wrapping machine or the like is described. A metal brake plank is placed under each end of each roll in a respective pair of parallel rolls and an air bag actuator is placed intermediate each end of each plank and the roll frame. For rotation of the rolls during wrapping the air bags are deflated but when a new coil is loaded onto the rolls the airbags are inflated thus driving the planks into locking relationship with the rotatable rolls and thus preventing any relative rotational movement therebetween.

A method and apparatus for wrapping coils of metallic strip and the like to protect against atmospheric corrosion are described. A plastic film sleeve is inserted through the open cylindrical centre and held in place by flanged collars at each end. The sleeve is turned back over the collars and the ends are loosely stuffed into the open cylindrical centre. The entire coil is then cocoon wrapped using relatively wide stretch-wrap film. The cocoon wrapping is then sealed to the turned-over sleeve in the vicinity of the end collars so as to seal the coil within a continuous plastic film. The excess cocoon wrapping and sleeve material overlying the cylindrical centre can be trimmed away to leave an open centre to receive coil handling equipment.

Method and apparatus for wrapping coils

A method and apparatus for wrapping coils of metallic strip and the like to protect against atmospheric corrosion, and the wrapped product are described. Method and apparatus for wrapping coils, and the wrapped product

A device for coating film passing through a continuous film dispensing head on a coil wrapping machine with a liquid formulation, such as a vapour phase corrosion inhibitor, is described. The formulation is delivered from a reservoir to an applicator bar which is urged into contact with the passing film. Flow of formulation can be established or interrupted while the film is enshrouding the coil.

A novel wall breaching apparatus may be constructed with sufficiently small weight and dimensions that it is effectively portable, while being sufficiently energetic to breach a thick wall. The apparatus consists of a number of similar panels, each including a matrix and a linear shaped charge embedded in the matrix. Each end of the charge is located adjacent an edge of the panel. The panels are configured to be assembled edge to edge in an open condition with the linear shaped charges arranged end to end, or face to face in a closed condition, with the linear shaped charges on the inside of the assembly. Thus, the apparatus may be collapsed to the closed position for storage and transport and assembled in its open condition to produce a single 'semi-continuous' linear charge of fixed shape. The arrangement of the shaped charges end to end produces the 'semi-continuous' linear shaped charge arrangement without the dimensional penalties associated with a continuous charge of the same size and configuration. The apparatus may be made considerably lighter than the known linear shaped charge device by using no metal confinement on the charge. The explosive weight per unit length may be increased to compensate for the lack of confinement without offsetting the considerable weight gains to be achieved. The ommission of the confinement also dramatically reduces the fragmentation hazard on the charge side of the wall.

Wall-breaching apparatus

A slackless draw bar coupler arrangement in which the car has a draw bar pocket with an open top, a slotted draft plate and a buff plate and the draw bar has a bar body with a spherical head connected to the body by a neck. Located about the neck is a thrust ring for disposition between the draft plate and the head and at that side of the head remote from the neck, there is a thrust disc insert for disposition between the buff plate and the head. The thrust disc insert and thrust ring are carried in holders. Between the buff plate and the thrust disc insert is a removable wedge which is spring loaded to urge the thrust disc insert firmly towards the head of the draw bar.

A tunnel structure for interconnecting passenger compartments on an articulated vehicle includes pairs of cylindrical walls which overlap during steering movement of the vehicle. To seal between the cylindrical walls, a pair of inner walls is provided which include hinged flaps lying against the cylindrical wall. The flaps are hinged on an inclined axis to reduce clearance between the cylindrical walls and the side walls upon the vehicle negotiating vertical curves.

Interconnecting passage for articulated vehicle

A jacking device for an articulated vehicle includes a support member secured to the vehicle and a jacking member slidable relative to the support member to lift the vehicle. A motor is detachably secured to the support member through a reaction member to cause relative movement between the jacking member and the support member. The motor and reaction member may be removed when not in use to allow storage at a remote location.

Jacking device for articulated streetcar

A centering mechanism for maintaining a tunnel structure equidistant from the two parts of an articulated vehicle. The mechanism includes a base plate pivoted to the tunnel structure and having a pair of vertical pins spaced apart on the base plate. Each of the pins accommodates a pair of levers which have toothed portions meshing with tooth portions on aligned levers on the other pin. The levers are connected in pairs to the adjacent chassis member by links so that upon movement of the chassis members about a horizontal axis, equal and opposite rotation of the links occurs to keep the tunnel centered.

Centering mechanism for articulated vehicle

An articulated vehicle includes a pivotal connection to permit movement between the chassis portions about a vertical and a horizontal axis. To reduce lateral deflection between the chassis portions a torque transmitting linkage is mounted at roof level and comprises a pivoted link mounted on a vertical pin on one of the chassis members. A pair of lateral links extend from the pivoted link to the other of the chassis members. The lateral links are generally parallel and prevent pivotal movement of the pivoted link upon a lateral force being applied to one of the chassis members.
