In addition to other aspects disclosed, a radio access network authenticates the identity of an access terminal using a session identifier and another identifier (different from the session identifier). The session identifier and the other identifier are provided by the access terminal.

A radio network controller and methods for reestablishing sessions in a wireless network are described. At least a portion of session information associated with a first session is saved; and in response to detecting an unexpected degradation of the first session, reestablishment of the first session is triggered using the portion of the session information.

Preserving sessions in a wireless network

Techniques for network-initiated session recovery are described. A relationship is maintained between two identifiers both associated with a session between a first device and an access terminal in a wireless network. The first identifier is associated with the first device, and the second identifier is associated with a second device in communication with the first device. After a breach of the session, communications associated with the session are preserved based on the relationship between the first and second identifiers.

Network-initiated session recovery

A communication system transmits packetized voice data from a voice source to a voice destination. At the voice destination, the packets are accumulated in a buffer, sequentially played out and the time the packet waits in the buffer is monitored. The time future voice packets are played out is accordingly adjusted.

Method and apparatus for adaptive smoothing delay for packet voice

The present invention provides a method (900) and device (100) in multimedia communication systems for efficiently segmenting information bitstreams from multiple media sources into variable length packets, and multiplexing and sending the packets to a shared communication link with low delay and low overhead. The packet segmentation and multiplexing are performed dynamically based on fullness of a set of information buffers that contain the information bitstreams to be transmitted, and delay-sensitivity of each information bitstreams.
