A speech recognition system interprets both spoken system commands as well as application commands. Users may speak commands to an open microphone of a computing device that may be interpreted by at least two speech recognizers operating simultaneously. The first speech recognizer interprets operating system commands and the second speech recognizer interprets application commands. The system commands may include at least opening and closing an application and the application commands may include at least a game command or navigation within a menu. A reserve word may be used to identify whether the command is for the operation system or application. A user's cadence may also indicate whether the speech is a global command or application command. A speech recognizer may include a natural language software component located in a remote computing device, such as in the so-called cloud.

System with multiple simultaneous speech recognizers

An electronic device in a topology of interconnected electronic devices can listen for a wake phrase and voice commands. The device can control when and how it responds so that a single device responds to voice commands. Per-task device preferences can be stored for a user. If a preferred device is not available, the task can still be performed on a device that has appropriate capabilities. Machine learning can determine a user's preferences. Power conservation and effective user interaction can result.

Device arbitration for listening devices

Embodiments that relate to identifying potential cross-language speech recognition problems are disclosed. For example, in one disclosed embodiment a speech recognition problem detection program receives a target word in a non-native language from a target application. A phonetic transcription of the target word comprising a plurality of target phonetic units is acquired. The program determines that at least one of the target phonetic units is not found in a plurality of native phonetic units associated with a native language. In response, a warning of the potential cross-language speech recognition problem may be outputted for display on a display device. The warning may comprise the target word.

Cross-language speech recognition

Embodiments are disclosed that relate to identifying phonetically similar speech grammar terms during computer program development. For example, one disclosed embodiment provides a method including providing a speech grammar development tool configured to receive input of a text representation of each of a plurality of proposed speech grammar terms, convert each text representation to a phonetic representation of the speech grammar term, compare the phonetic representation of the speech grammar term to the phonetic representations of other speech grammar terms using a weighted similarity matrix, and provide an output regarding risk of confusion between two proposed speech grammar terms based upon a comparison of the phonetic representations of the two proposed speech grammar terms. The method further includes receiving data regarding incorrect speech grammar term identification, and modifying one or more weights in the weighted similarity matrix based upon the data.

Incremental optimizations and modifications to a disk image can be made after the initial generation of the disk image. In the case of video games, publishers who have access only to a final game image can use the invention to make small improvements to the game disc image without the original game assets and without incurring the cost of generating an entirely new disc image. A mapping data structure represents physical locations of data on disk. The mapping data structure is modified with an editor, and the resulting modified layout is tested using an emulator that emulates interaction between a computer readable medium with the modified layout and computer hardware.
