A torque-resistant dual face seal includes a seal ring having an L-shaped cross-section including an axially-extending flange and a radially-extending flange, the seal ring including an annular seal face and an opposing loading surface. The seal ring includes a plurality of deformations formed in a spaced apart arrangement circumferentially around the axially-extending flange. An axial cross-section through the axially-extending flange and intersecting one of the plurality of deformations includes a stepped geometry. The plurality of deformations allows a load ring to squeeze into the plurality of deformations to increase a surface area contact between the seal ring and the load ring.

Torque resistant seal

A method for manufacturing a seal is disclosed. The method includes depositing one or more layers of a first material on a metal base plate of a second material to form a main seal body of the seal. The second material is different from the first material. The method further includes separating the seal from the metal base plate such that the seal includes the main seal body and an outer seal layer retained on the main seal body to form a seal face surface of the seal. The outer seal layer is formed of a portion of the metal base plate.

Seal and a method of manufacturing the seal

A method for manufacturing a seal is disclosed. The method includes coating a sealing surface substrate of an annular main seal body of the seal with a layer of Molybdenum, and melting the layer of Molybdenum to fuse the layer of Molybdenum into the sealing surface substrate to form an alloyed outer seal layer. The alloyed outer seal layer forms a sealing surface of the seal.

Method for manufacturing seals

A method for manufacturing a seal is disclosed. The method includes forming a layer of a hardened metal layer on a metal base plate. Further, the method includes melting the layer of the hardened metal in a nitrogen atmosphere to form a layer of metal nitride. Furthermore, the method includes depositing a plurality of layers of a metal alloy on the layer of metal nitride to form a main seal body portion, wherein the layer of metal nitride and the main seal body portion together correspond to the seal.

Method of manufacturing a seal

A mechanical face seal includes a seal ring, the seal ring including an inner circumferential surface, an outer circumferential surface, and a generally annular body extending between the inner and outer circumferential surfaces. An annular flange projects radially from the annular body to an outer perimeter of the flange and a sealing band is on the annular flange. A slot may extend radially into the seal ring from the inner circumferential surface of the seal ring. A cooling channel may be in and extend generally circumferentially through at least one of the annular body and annular flange.

Mechanical face seal

A laser polishing method for a metal face seal is provided. The method includes determining, using a processor, a first smoothness level of a seal face surface of the metal face seal. The method includes applying, using the processor, a laser beam at a first angle to at least one peak on the seal face surface of the metal face seal, the first angle measured relative to a normal to the seal face surface. The method includes determining, using the processor, a second smoothness level of the seal face surface. The method includes controlling, using the processor, the laser beam until the second smoothness level is equal to a threshold smoothness level. The method includes turning off the laser beam, using the processor, when the second smoothness level is equal to the threshold smoothness level isotropically over the seal face surface.
