A filter separates a composite video input signal into luminance and chrominance signal components. DC signals are combined with the luminance signal to produce four control signals, first and fourth ones of which have an AC component inversely proportional to the luminance signal, second and third ones of which having an AC component directly porportional to the luminance signal, each having a respective DC component. The DC components of the first and third control signals are regulated in proportion to a first reference voltage, V1, and the DC components of the second and fourth ones of the control signals are regulated in proportion to a second reference voltage V2. Cascade connected complementary non-additive mixers limit excursions in a first sense of the chrominance signal to the lesser in that sense of the first and second control signals and limits excursions in a second sense of the chrominance signal to the lesser in that sense of the third and fourth control signals to thereby provide a limited chrominance output signal. The luminance and chrominance signals are combined to provide a composite video output signal limited to a range defined by the reference voltages V1 and V2 and in which the chrominance component of the output signal is limited symmetrically with respect to the luminance signal level, thereby reducing even order harmonic distortion of the chrominance signal under limiting conditions.

Chrominance signal limiter

A synchronizing apparatus for compensating for cable length changes between a remote color television camera and a local control point is described. The color camera is of the type adapted to receive a 'gen-lock' type reference signal for synchronization. The apparatus is responsive to the 'gen-lock' signal and the signal from the television camera for generating a 'gen-lock' type signal phase advanced to compensate for cable delays.

Synchronizing apparatus for remote television apparatus

A sync regenerator is provided which regenerates synchronizing information signals having a varying amplitude and width by comparing the sync signals in a comparator circuit to which a source of reference potential is applied. The comparator output signal of fixed amplitude is pulse width detected and the value of the detector output voltage is coupled by a feedback circuit to the reference potential source to vary the reference potential so as to maintain the width of the comparator output signal constant. The regenerated sync output signal is of constant amplitude and constant width.

A video blanking circuit is provided which inserts a system blanking interval signal having controlled leading and trailing edges into a video signal. The blanking signal is combined with a clamped video signal in a first non-additive mixer which also provides a white clip level. The output of the first non-additive mixer is further coupled to a second non-additive mixer in which black level excursions are clipped so as to provide an output video signal having a proper system blanking interval into which synchronizing information may be added to complete the composite video waveform.
