The disclosure describes techniques for associating therapy adjustments with posture states using a timer. The techniques may include detecting a patient adjustment to electrical stimulation therapy delivered to the patient, sensing a posture state of the patient, and associating the detected adjustment with the sensed posture state if the sensed posture state is sensed within a first period following the detection of the adjustment and if the sensed posture state does not change during a second period following the sensing of the sensed posture state.

Systems and techniques to ensure reliable operation of devices, such as medical devices, that are configured to execute installed software are described. A secure software update process for the device utilizes multiple integrity checks in order to prove that software integrity has not been compromised before the device is allowed to be put into service with the software installed thereon. Also described is a computer architecture for an external defibrillator that isolates the execution of installed software applications by separately compiling the code for those applications and by executing the separately-compiled applications on different processors of the defibrillator. Among other things, this allows the defibrillator to be 'brought online' faster, such as to deliver a shock to a patient.

An example method is performed by a current defibrillator and includes determining that a memory embedded within a therapy cable coupled to the current defibrillator stores data indicative of a previous shock delivered to a patient, the previous being delivered using a previous defibrillator. The method also includes obtaining the data indicative of the previous shock, and setting an energy level for a subsequent shock based on the data indicative of the previous shock. The method further includes delivering the subsequent shock to the patient at the energy level for the subsequent shock.

Techniques related to classifying a posture state of a living body are disclosed. One aspect relates to sensing at least one signal indicative of a posture state of a living body. Posture state detection logic classifies the living body as being in a posture state based on the at least one signal, wherein this classification may take into account at least one of posture and activity state of the living body. The posture state detection logic further determines whether the living body is classified in the posture state for at least a predetermined period of time. Response logic is described that initiates a response as a result of the body being classified in the posture state only after the living body has maintained the classified posture state for at least the predetermined period of time. This response may involve a change in therapy, such as neurostimulation therapy, that is delivered to the living body.

To avoid interruptions in effective therapy, an implantable medical device may include a posture state module that detects the posture state of the patient and automatically adjusts therapy parameter values according to the detected posture state. This disclosure describes techniques for generation of sleep quality information based on posture state data. The techniques may include obtaining posture state data sensed by a medical device for a patient, generating sleep quality information based on lying posture state changes indicated by the posture state data, and presenting the sleep quality information to a user via a user interface.

Posture-responsive therapy is delivered by the medical system based on posture state input from only one of multiple posture sensors at any given time. An example implantable medical system includes a first posture sensor and a second sensor. A processor controls therapy delivery to the patient based on at least one of a patient posture state or a patient activity level determined based on input from only one of the first or second posture sensors. In some examples, one of multiple posture sensors of an implantable posture-responsive medical system is used to automatically reorient another posture sensor (of the system), which has become disoriented. The disoriented posture sensor may be automatically reoriented for one or more posture states at a time.

Systems and methods for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in medical emergencies are disclosed herein. The systems and methods include receiving at a first UAV an indication of a medical emergency and coordinating with a second UAV based on the second UAV's capabilities. The first UAV determines if the capabilities of the second UAV complement the capabilities of the first UAV based on the indicated medical emergency. The disclosed systems and methods deploy both the first and second UAVs to the medical emergency if the capabilities of the second UAV complement those of the first UAV.

Linking posture states for posture responsive therapy

The disclosure provides techniques for parameter-directed shifting of electrical stimulation electrode combinations. An external programmer permits a user to shift electrode combinations, e.g., along the length of a lead or leads. The external programmer accepts shift input and causes an electrical stimulator to shift electrode combinations as indicated by the input. Different sets of electrodes may have different electrode counts. For example, an array of electrodes carried by one lead may have a greater number of electrodes than an array of electrodes carried on another lead. The disclosure provides techniques for shifting electrode combinations among leads with different electrode counts. For example, an external programmer may execute shifts in a series of shift operations, where the number of shift operations along the length of a lead having a greater electrode count is greater than the number of shift steps along the length of a lead having a lesser electrode count.
