A television signal generator which is fully digital has digital data stored in PROMs, one PROM for each component of the desired encoded television signal corresponding to luminance data and chrominance data. A system clock allows a signal address generator to fetch data from the PROMs. The chrominance data from the PROMs is mixed with appropriate digital representations of a sinusoidal function and a phase offset and is added to the luminance data. The combined digital signal is converted to analog, filtered and output as the desired encoded television signal.

Television signal generator

A method for examining a propagative medium, such as a signal transmission cable, that requires the acquisition and examination of a minimum number of data points to determine the presence of an anomaly in the medium. When an anomaly is detected, its characteristics, such as loation, type and amount of loss are determined. The characteristics are then displayed. If the anomaly is a reflectionless loss, the region containing the anomaly is examined repetitively to determine its location and to improve the accuracy of its location measurement. With each successive level of examination, additional samples are collected within the region. The new samples are combined with the existing samples to reduce random noise in the data. Through this method the location of the anomaly is re-determined with greater accuracy.

Method of detecting and characterizing anomalies in a propagative medium

A device for rendering a data source compatible with a processor having a predetermined protocol for receiving information from peripheral devices, comprises a controller for receiving information from the data source and conducting the protocol with the processor to place the processor in a condition for receiving the information. A latch receives information from the controller and makes the information available to the processor when the processor is in a condition for receiving information.

Microprocessor interface device for coupling non-compatible protocol

Apparatus for comparing a stream of data characters with a predetermined string of test characters has an input device for receiving the stream of data characters and a main processor for generating the predetermined string of test characters. A hardware register receives the predetermined string of test characters from the main processor, and a comparator device compares the stream of data characters with the contents of the register device and generates a response in the event that a portion of the stream is identical to the string of test characters generated by the main processor. A second processor receives the response and sends a report to the main processor.
