A pairing scheme may add devices to a mesh network automatically. Assuming that at least one device is already part of the mesh network, this scheme may allow devices that have not been paired yet to be automatically added to the mesh, eliminating manual pairing processes. When a new device is powered on, it may broadcast a connectable advertisement packet. The payload of this packet may be secure and not understood by the recipient device. Rather, only a server may have a copy of the device key, and can thus decrypt the advertising packet. The server sends a packet back with a network key and information, and the device then becomes part of the network.

Bulk pairing for mesh networks

Communication may be enabled between mobile devices (i.e., controllers) and Internet of Things (IoT) devices by sending connectionless commands from a controller to an IoT device, or sending connectionless commands from a controller to more than one IoT devices, at the same time. One or more commands may be sent from a controller to one or more nodes that form a network, with the nodes relaying messages to each other via connectionless data packets. This may allow for connectionless command relay from the controller to any node within the network. By sending commands through connectionless data packets, one or more controllers may control one or more nodes at the same time. Furthermore, a single controller may directly send one or more commands to a group of nodes at the same time.

Wireless control of multiple actor devices by multiple controller devices with communication security

Wearable communication devices, e.g. implemented in a watch, using short range communication e.g. to a cell phone allow a user to talk and listen, place and answer calls, send and receive text messages, initiate voice commands to mobile search for information and find locations, and be notified of incoming calls, texts, and events, all while a phone is nearby but not visible. Notification is performed with vibration, an LED light or OLED text display of incoming calls, texts, and calendar events. It allows communicating hands-free. The watches can be directly connected to a smartphone allowing using the watch as 'remote control' for home appliances or any other devices via voice and buttons. Motion sensors such as accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope, together with audio generation device can be used for gaming applications.

Wearable communication device

Appearance of simultaneous connections is provided to devices that support two wireless protocols which are not permitted to operation simultaneously. As an example the method and systems disclosed are applied to the communication between a phone and a smartwatch wherein Bluetooth (BT) classic protocol is used for e.g. voice commands and phone calls and Bluetooth low Energy (BLE) protocol is used for data notifications. In a first embodiment of the disclosure automatic mode switching between BT and BLE is provided. In a second embodiment a dual-ID device utilizes separate IDs for both protocols in time multiplexed connections. It operates as logically independent devices with individual ID's although physically it is a single device.

Supporting virtually simultaneous operation of dual wireless protocols in a single device

A personal monitoring and communication system includes a monitoring and communication control device, at least one personal monitoring communication device coupled with a person and a personal monitoring communication device finder. The personal monitoring communication device includes a GPS receiver, cellular telephone circuits, and short-range wireless radio circuits for communicating with caregivers. The personal monitoring communication device finder receives an emergency beacon generated by one personal monitoring communication device and determines a location of the personal monitoring communication device. A dead reckoning circuit determines the position of the person from a reference location. A motion detection circuit determines that the person is moving, not moving, or has fallen. A battery power management circuit minimizes power consumption to increase battery life of a battery powering the personal monitoring communication device. A tamper detection circuit determines whether the personal monitoring communication device is coupled to the person.

Low power location-tracking device with combined short-range and wide-area wireless and location capabilities

A communication system that allows communication devices to synchronize the transfer of data to allow the devices to wirelessly and efficiently communicate in a star or mesh network. The communication system operates in the presence of other communication systems noise sources using a spread spectrum frequency hopping transmission scheme to efficiently generate adaptive frequency hopping patterns that are unique to the members of the wireless network based on a network identification code. The communication system employs a predictive retrieval of data for transmission from one device storing the data to a requesting device. A communication device transfers communication from a first network to a second network when the device has been moved beyond the range of the first network, where the second network is in communication with at least one other member device of the first network.

Wireless system protocols for power-efficient implementation of star and mesh wireless networks with local and wide-area coverage

A driver circuit for a piezoelectric speaker is described, wherein charge is transferred from a charge reservoir to the speaker. In a first embodiment a delta sigma circuit uses a pulse width modulated digital audio signal to control a push-pull circuit to drive the piezoelectric speaker. High frequency harmonics are introduced to the delta sigma drive signals to enhance the low frequency response of the speaker. A charge recovery mechanism recovers charge from the speaker to reduce the frequency of replenishing the charge reservoir and to provide additional drive current for the speaker. In a second embodiment the pulse width modulated signal is used to drive a voltage quadrupling circuit that drives the piezoelectric speaker, wherein the reservoir capacitor is integrated with the capacitors of quadrupling circuit, which provides charge recovery.

Audio output drivers for piezo speakers

A personal health management device is described. The device is part of a system comprising at least one console, one or more devices in wireless communication with the console wherein the console acts as an intelligent gateway through which the one or more devices may communicate to external data and voice networks, and an alert system wherein an alert is triggered by one or more of a user's action and pre-set alarm criteria and wherein the triggering of an alert causes the console to take an action. The device may be a wearable device or it may be implemented in software and reside on third-party hardware.

Personal health management device

A transmit-only Bluetooth-compatible apparatus is described comprising: a protocol stack compatible with the Bluetooth protocol standard, the protocol stack including selected portions of the Bluetooth protocol used only for transmitting data; and a transceiver communicatively coupled to the protocol stack and configured to physically transmit the data. Also described is a receive-only Bluetooth-compatible apparatus comprising: a protocol stack compatible with the Bluetooth protocol standard, the protocol stack including selected portions of the Bluetooth protocol used only for receiving data; and a transceiver communicatively coupled to the protocol stack and configured to physically receive the data. Also described is a method comprising: generating a transmit-only Bluetooth protocol stack by removing elements of a standard Bluetooth protocol stack related to receiving data; and configuring the transmit-only Bluetooth protocol stack in a transmit-only wireless device for transmitting data.

Transmit-only and receive-only Bluetooth apparatus and method

A system is described comprising: a finite state machine having a plurality of states interconnected through a plurality of events, wherein certain states and events in said plurality are implemented in software and other states and events in said plurality are implemented in hardware; and a scheduler communicatively coupled to the finite state machine and being programmable with one or more parameters defining scheduled operations to be performed by the scheduler, wherein the finite state machine is configured to select one or more of said parameters to be used by said scheduler upon transition by said finite state machine from a first state to a second state.

Software modem architecture

A method is described comprising: receiving a synchronization packet transmitted form a first device; receiving a data packet transmitted from the first device, the data packet being offset from the synchronization packet by a particular amount of time; and identifying the first device based on the amount of time from which the data packet is offset from the synchronization packet. Also disclosed is a method implemented on a first wireless device comprising: transmitting a synchronization packet to a second wireless device; and transmitting a first data packet to the second wireless device, the first data packet being offset from the synchronization packet by a first amount of time, wherein the first amount of time from which the first data packet is offset from the synchronization packet identifies first wireless device to second wireless device.
