The present invention relates generally to the field of emissions control and, in particular to a new and useful method and/or system by which to control, treat and/or mitigate various liquid-based acidic compounds that are produced during oxy-combustion (e.g., during a compression step and/or cooling step) from various gaseous acid compounds and/or gaseous acid precursor compounds (e.g., SO, NO, etc.). In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a method and/or system by which such one or more liquid-based acid compounds are recycled into the flue gases and/or into one or more of the emissions control and/or flue gas treatment equipment of an oxy-combustion power generation system.

Method for controlling acidic compounds produced for oxy-combustion processes

An in-situ forced oxidation wet flue gas desulfurization apparatus, method and arrangement for utilization with oxy-fuel combustion power plants. The apparatus is a tower-like structure having a flue gas scrubbing zone and a reaction zone located subjacent to the gas scrubbing zone. A sulfur oxide absorbing liquid slurry is supplied to the gas scrubbing zone to react with and scrub the sulfur oxides from the flue gas. The partially reacted liquid slurry reagent and the scrubbed products drain into the reaction zone, rising to a set level. Oxidation air is introduced into the liquid slurry in the reaction zone to force the in-situ oxidation of sulfur compounds collected in the reaction zone. A wall separates and communicates the gas scrubbing zone and the reaction zone, the wall prevents the oxidation air from entering the gas scrubbing zone and extends into the liquid slurry below a nominal depth required to establish and maintain a liquid slurry seal thereby substantially precluding the leakage of flue gas into the reaction zone while allowing the partially reacted liquid slurry reagent and scrubbed products to drain into the reaction zone.

Segregated in-situ forced oxidation wet flue gas desulfurization for oxygen-fired fossil fuel combustion

A sootblower isolation wall box provided for sealing the wall box opening of a large scale boiler to provide sootblower lance tube access to the boiler. The wall box assembly includes a clamping seal assembly having radial sealing segments which are individually actuated. Applying fluid pressure to actuating cylinders causes the seal segments to be clamped against the outer circumference of the sootblower lance tube. During cleaning cycles, the segments are actuated to provide a radial clearance with the lance tube. Preferably, the clamping seal assembly is used in connection with another seal assembly which is relied upon to provide sealing during the cleaning steps. In a preferred embodiment, the additional seal assembly is in the form of a labyrinth-type seal assembly.

A tri-sector regenerative oxidant preheater apparatus, method and arrangement for utilization with oxy-fired pulverized coal combustion power plants. The preheater includes a stationary housing and a rotor rotatably mounted in the housing. Sector plates are located at the axial ends of the rotor and divide the preheater into a flue gas sector, two primary oxidant sectors, and a secondary oxidant sector interposed between the two primary oxidant sectors. A primary oxidant fan is located downstream of the preheater to create a negative environment in the primary oxidant sectors. During operation of the preheater, the environments of the two primary oxidant sectors and the flue gas sector are at about the same negative pressure, and thus there is very limited leakage between the oxidant side and the flue gas side of the preheater. The environment of the secondary oxidant sector is at a positive pressure and leakage to the negative environment of the primary oxidant sectors will be that of secondary oxidant to primary oxidant with no loss secondary oxidant to the gas side of the preheater.

A method and system for dehumidifying flue gas from a flue gas generating. Water is supplied from a cooling tower to a heat exchanger in the liquid in the lower end of a wet flue gas processor for cooling the liquid in the lower end of the wet flue gas processor to condense water from the flue gas into the liquid in the wet flue gas processor. Returning water from the heat exchanger to the cooling tower cools the water and the liquid with the condensed water is supplied from the wet flue gas processor to the cooling tower as make-up water for the cooling tower to reduce or eliminate the need for fresh make-up water.

The present invention is related to a system for removal of moisture and contaminants from recirculated flue gas. The system includes a spray tower for spraying the flue gas with a liquid reagent to remove contaminants from the flue gas. A heat exchanger, integrally connected to the spray tower, cools the liquid reagent before the reagent is sprayed onto the flue gas stream. Cooled liquid reagent improves the condensation of the water vapor in the flue gas during the spraying process and provides a lower moisture content flue gas exiting the system. The vessel is fabricated in or divided into half portions with each portion being connected to a base ring for separate testing. This eliminates the excessive weight that would be experienced if the vessel were to be pressure tested as one unit, particularly in the case of hydrotesting where the vessel is filled with water.

A depressurization apparatus which utilizes a plurality of rupturable discs connected to lines that communicate with a conduit conveying hot gas from a pressurized fluid bed reactor to a turbine. Whenever depressurization is required due to excessive pressure in the conduit or for another reason, one or more rupturable discs are electrically fired to vent the gas to atmosphere. A separate isolation valve is provided for each disc, and can be closed to facilitate the replacement of a ruptured disc without having to shutdown the reactor.
