A method for diagnosing an engine in a vehicle, the method comprising: initiating a diagnostic test of the engine, disabling a cylinder of the engine, measuring a parameter indicative of performance of the engine, re-enabling the cylinder, comparing the parameter to reference data, assessing a status of the cylinder based on the comparison, and generating a diagnostic result based on the status of the disabled cylinder.

Systems and methods for diagnosing an engine

A fatigue monitoring system is disclosed for use with a machine. The fatigue monitoring system may have an input device configured to generate a first signal indicative of an activity performed by a machine operator, a scanning device configured to generate a second signal indicative of a recognized characteristic of the machine operator, and a warning device. The fatigue monitoring system may also have a controller in communication with the input device, the scanning device, and the warning device. The controller may be configured to determine a time between generations of the first signal, to make a comparison of the recognized characteristic with a threshold characteristic, and to selectively activate the warning device based on the time or the comparison.

Operator fatigue monitoring system

A control system is disclosed for use with a locomotive. The control system may have a component located onboard the locomotive, the component having a first state and a second state. The control system may also have an operator input device located onboard the locomotive and used to manually toggle operation of the component between the first and second states, and at least one sensor located onboard the locomotive and configured to generate a signal associated with a condition of the locomotive. The control system may also have an offboard controller located remotely from the locomotive and being configured to selectively override the operator input device and toggle operation of the component between the first and second states based on the signal.

A rail vehicle consist may include a master unit and at least one trailing unit coupled to the master unit. The master unit may include a first processor in communication with a second processor of the at least one trailing unit. A power source may be disposed on the at least one trailing unit and may include a sensor associated with the second processor. A display may be disposed on the master unit and may be associated with the first processor to display characteristics monitored by the sensor wherein the display presents a message image, a warning image, and an isolate image.

Communication system and method for a rail vehicle consist

A vision control system for controlling a vision of a glass surface of a locomotive. The vision control system includes a sensing module for detecting at least one parameter related to the glass surface. The sensing module includes a moisture sensing device configured to detect a presence of moisture on the glass surface and a photo sensor configured to detect an opacity of the glass surface. The vision control system also includes a cleaning system configured to perform a cleaning operation on the glass surface. The vision control system further includes a controller communicably coupled to the sensing module and the cleaning system. The controller is configured to receive a signal indicative of the at least one parameter related to the glass surface from the sensing module and communicate with the cleaning system to control the cleaning operation based on the received signal.

Visibility control system and method for locomotive

A method for detecting a slipped traction motor pinion in a locomotive is disclosed. The locomotive may have a traction system and a controller in communication with the traction system. The traction system may have a wheel axle, a traction motor operatively connected to the wheel axle, a speed sensor associated with the traction motor, an inverter coupled to the traction motor, and a current sensor associated with the inverter. The method may include monitoring signals indicative of a speed of the traction motor received from the speed sensor, receiving current feedback associated with the inverter received from the current sensor, comparing the signals from the speed sensor to the current feedback, and determining that the traction motor is decoupled from the wheel axle based on the comparison of the signals from the speed sensor to the current feedback.

Automatic disabling of unpowered locked wheel fault detection for slipped traction motor pinion

The disclosure is directed to a communication system for a consist having a locomotive and a tender car. The communication system may have a locomotive access point configured to be located onboard the locomotive, a locomotive controller connected to the locomotive access point, a tender car access point configured to be located onboard the tender car, and a tender car controller connected to the tender car access point. The communication system may also have at least one network component configured to be located onboard the locomotive or the tender car and connected with a corresponding one of the locomotive and tender car access points, and a communication coupling extending between the locomotive and tender car access points. The locomotive and tender car controllers may be configured to selectively affect operation of the locomotive and tender car, respectively, based on operational information obtained via the at least one network component.

Locomotive/tender car communication system

A control system is provided for use with an engine. The control system may have a coolant pressure sensor configured to generate a first signal indicative of a pressure of coolant circulating through the engine, and an oil pressure sensor configured to generate a second signal indicative of a pressure of oil circulating through the engine. The control system may also have a controller in communication with the coolant and oil pressure sensors. The controller may be configured to determine functionality of the coolant and oil pressure sensors during operation of the engine, and to selectively allow operation of the engine in a semi-protected mode when the coolant pressure sensor or the oil pressure sensor is determined to be non-functional.

Engine control system for mobile machine

The disclosure is directed to a communication method for use with a train consist having a locomotive and a tender car. The communication method may include transmitting between the locomotive and the tender car operational data captured by network components located onboard at least one of the locomotive and the tender car. The method may further include selectively adjusting an operation of at least one of the locomotive and the tender car based on the data.

A locomotive consist control system may include a lead controller associated with a lead locomotive of the consist, and a secondary controller associated with a trailing locomotive of the consist and communicatively coupled by a communication link with the lead controller. The lead controller may be configured to receive a generator voltage or current output from a power bus electrical characteristics sensor associated with each locomotive, determine a total electrical power output requirement for the consist, determine an electrical power output requirement for each locomotive in the consist, and supply instructions to dynamically adjust an output voltage or current generated by a generator associated with each locomotive to a desired voltage or current anywhere within the rated capacity of the generator.
