Hybrid gas circuit breakers comprising a main breaker tank having an interrupter assembly positioned therein, bushing support nozzles laterally extending from the breaker tank, disconnect switches coupled to and extending generally upwardly or vertically from the bushing support nozzles, and bushings assembled to the disconnect switches. In addition, bushing current transformers (BCTs) are assembled on the bushing support nozzles adjacent the breaker tank instead. The lateral positioning of components results in a low assembled height permitting shipping of a fully assembled and tested unit for voltage ratings up to and including 362 kV.

Hybrid circuit breakers

A circuit breaker, or transformer, or insulated bus for use with AC voltages greater than 30 kilovolts and AC currents greater than 400 amperes includes an elongated bushing made from electrically insulating material and having a first end adapted to be coupled to a main enclosure of the circuit breaker, or transformer, or insulated bus. An elongated extruded radiator has a first end coupled to the second end of the bushing and a second end. A terminal pad is coupled to the second end of the extruded radiator. An electrical conductor is disposed in internal cavities of the bushing and the extruded radiator in spaced relation to internal walls of the bushing and the extruded radiator that define the internal cavities. One end of the conductor is electrically connected to the terminal pad.

Gas insulated bus (GIB) systems and methods are provided that facilitate efficient cost control and resource utilization. A GIB system assembly includes one or more GIB runs which include a maximum number of a first GIB section components having a predetermined length and a second GIB section component having a custom or variable length coupled to one of the one or more first GIB section components at their flanged ends, and first and second tee-shaped connectors coupled to one of the one or more first GIB section components and the second GIB section component and used to couple the GIB runs together and orient the bus runs at a desired bus routing angle.

Gas insulated bus system configuration

A circuit breaker is provided having a particle trap within an interior gas-insulation cavity containing a contact mechanism. The interior cavity is defined within a tank. In an embodiment, the tank has a generally cylindrical tank wall, and the trap is a recessed channel formed by the tank wall along a bottom of the interior cavity. The trap is effective to collect foreign particles present within the tank, thereby reducing breakdown. In an embodiment, portions of the tank wall adjacent to the channel curve or slope downwardly toward the channel to guide particles moving under the influence of gravity, mechanical vibration and gas flow into the trap where they are immobilized in operation due to the low electrical field.`
