A method of manufacturing porous core-shell polymer particles having a nonporous shell including: providing a first organic solvent containing a dissolved polymer; dispersing the organic solvent in an aqueous phase containing a stabilizer to form an emulsion; adding the emulsion to a second organic solvent wherein the second organic solvent is miscible with water and the first organic solvent, and a non-solvent for the polymer; and evaporating the first and second organic solvents from the emulsion to form core-shell polymer particles. The method results in core-shell polymer particles comprising a common binder polymer for the core and the shell wherein the core has a porosity and the shell is non-porous. The particles have a porosity from 10 to 70 percent.

The present invention provides a dispersion comprising wax particles dispersed with a polymeric dispersant in a water immiscible solvent, wherein the dispersant comprises a wax-compatible polyolefin segment and a polyester compatible oleophilic polar segment. The invention is further directed towards a method of manufacturing such a wax dispersion, and towards methods of manufacturing wax-containing polymer particles by limited coalescence processes employing such a wax dispersion. In particular embodiments, the invention is directed towards chemically prepared toner derived from wax dispersions of the invention that shows improved toner performance.

The present invention is a method of manufacturing toner particles that includes providing a first emulsion of a first aqueous phase comprising a pore stabilizing hydrocolloid dispersed in an organic solution containing a polymer. The first emulsion is dispersed in a second aqueous phase to form a second emulsion that is sheared in the presence of a stabilizing agent to form droplets of the first emulsion in the second aqueous phase. The organic solution is evaporated from the droplets to form porous toner particles.

The film is readily manufactured and provides the required optical property for proper compensation of LCDs.

Disclosed is an optical multilayer comprising a polymeric substrate having a non-zero out-of plane birefringence and an amorphous polymeric overlayer that comprises an amorphous polymer having a Tg value above 160&#xb0; C. and having the sign of its out-of-plane birefringence opposite to that of the polymeric substrate so as to provide a total out-of-plane phase retardation of said optical multilayer of between &#x2212;30 nm and 30 nm for wavelengths of light between 400 and 700 nm.
