The present invention provides process for the production of opiate alkaloids. In particular, the present invention provides processes for the production of buprenorphine or a derivative of buprenorphine that minimizes the formation of impurities.

There is disclosed a method for the crystallization of benzphetamine hydrochloride from an organic medium by the steps of removing water from the system to a very low level and then reducing the temperature of the organic medium to provide crystallization of the acid salt. In the event that crystallization does not occur upon lowering the temperature of the medium, it has been discovered that gentle heating of the organic medium results in crystallization of the acid salt. It has also been discovered that higher temperature crystallization has been provided by removal of methamphetamine from the composition. The crystalline benzphetamine hydrochloride can then be isolated by typical liquid/solid separation means such as filtration or centrifugation. 

Crystallization method for benzphetamine

This present invention relates to a process for preparing benzylated amines by the reaction of an amine selected from methamphetamine and propylhexedrine with benzyl halide. Numerous improvements are obtained by employing the amine in molar excess with respect to benzyl halide, preferably in a molar ratio of 2 to 1. The excess amine is employed to selectively neutralize by-product acid as the amine salt. The amine salt is then separated from the reaction mixture and basified to reclaim starting amine for recycle to the process.

This invention relates to novel water soluble metal working fluid compositions, their use to work metal, a process for working metal using such compositions and the metal worked article of manufacture. More particularly, this invention relates to fluid compositions useful in cutting, grinding, shaping and other metal working operations which require a lubricant. The terms &ldquo;first Group A&rdquo; and &ldquo;second Group B&rdquo; are used herein to denote different groups and not to indicate any sequence of use or selection as any possible combination or sequence of use of a component(s) is envisioned without limit of any kind. The disclosed fluid compositions are also anticorrosive and environmentally more acceptable than current oil based fluids. There has now been discovered an essentially odorless, substantially non-oil misting, water-soluble metal working fluid comprising at least one component selected from a first Group A herein and optionally one or more components selected from a second Group B herein preferably with the balance of the composition being water and other (optional) minor ingredients. When a component is employed from Group A and a component is employed from Group B the action of the combination generally enhances performance of the resulting combination with contain moieties from both Group A and Group B.

Water soluble metal working fluids

There are disclosed corrosion inhibiting compositions comprising (a) at least one amido acid or salt thereof and (b) at least one of an aryltriazole or 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole wherein the molar ratio of (a) to (b) is about 0.34:1 to about 5:1, and aqueous metal working fluids containing the corrosion inhibiting compositions of the invention.

Compositions comprising certain amino acids such as aspartic acid, when fully ionized at alkaline pH, function effectively as corrosion inhibitors for ferrous metals in the presence of an aqueous medium. This effect is enhanced with increased fluid velocity.

A first embodiment comprises reacting PSI with polyhydrazide selected from the group consisting of dihydrazides and trihydrazides and mixtures thereof, subsequently hydrolyzing the crosslinked PSI with base to produce crosslinked polyaspartate. A second embodiment comprises reacting PSI with hydrazine to form an intermediate product which is reacted with polyacyl chloride or polyester to produce crosslinked PSI followed by hydrolysis to form crosslinked salt. Isolation of the intermediate before reaction with the polyacyl chloride or polyester is unnecessary.

Crosslinked polyaspartate salts a process for their production

There is disclosed a process for microencapsulation of materials by means of complex coacervation employeing gelatin and polyaspartic acid. Material to be encapsulated is emulsified in an aqueous solution of gelatin. Polyaspartic acid or a salt thereof is employed to provide a counter ion to the gelatin which, when induced to precipitate from solution by cooling and/or pH change forms a wall around the material. The wall is hardened by crosslinking to form a stable microcapsule containing the material.

Microencapsulation process by coacervation

There is disclosed novel cross linked polyanhydroaspartic acid which is the product of the reaction of a polysuccinidmide with triaminononoane (TAN). Depending upon the amount a cross linking agent employed compositions of varying degrees of cross linking are produced. Mole ratio of polysuccinimide to TAN such as from 3 to 1 provides a water insoluble material while a mole ratio of 102 to 1 provides a water soluble material at 28% by weight. Such compounds find utility as thickeners, deflocculants, flocculants and water absorbers.

Crosslinked polyaspartic acid and salts

There is disclosed a process for preparing polyaspartic acid by thermal condensation of L-aspartic acid in a novel catalyst which shortens the reaction time and increases the molecular weight of the polymer. The novel catalyst is a catalytically effective methylenephosphonic acid. Typical catalysts are 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid and aminotris(methylenephosphonic acid). The methylenephosphonic acid is blended with the amino acid in a molar ratio of amino acid to catalyst in the range of from about 1:1 to 40:1.
