A unitized disc pack for use in a disc pack coupling includes at least two coaxial discs forming a disc pack. The disc pack defines a first axially outwardly facing face and a second axially outwardly facing face facing away from the first outwardly facing face, and includes a plurality of axially aligned holes formed through said disc pack. A first flanged bushing including a flange extends into one of the holes formed through the disc pack. The first flanged bushing is inserted into the one of the holes from the first outwardly facing face of the disc pack. The first flanged bushing flange engages the first outwardly facing face of the disc pack. A second flanged bushing including a flange extends into one of the holes formed through the disc pack. The second flanged bushing is inserted into the one of the holes from the second outwardly facing face of the disc pack. The second flanged bushing flange engages the second outwardly facing face of the disc pack, such that the discs are sandwiched between the flanges of the first and second flanged bushings.

Unitized disc pack and disc pack coupling formed therewith

A disc pack coupling for transmitting torque between two shafts approximately aligned on a shaft axis a hub assembly including an end adapter adjacent to a hub flange. A center member is fixed to the end adapter and is encircled by a disc pack. The disc pack resiliently couples the end adapter and the hub flange.

Nested disc pack coupling

A disc pack coupling for transmitting torque between two shafts approximately aligned on a shaft axis includes a first hub assembly, a second hub assembly, and a center member extending between the first and second hub assemblies. Each hub assembly includes an axially compressible disc pack interposed between a hub and an end adapter. The center member has opposing ends, and is axially split into at least two pieces. A flange extending radially from each of the center member ends includes a assembly/disassembly hole formed between two of the at least two pieces.

Method of removing a center member from a disc pack coupling

A piloted flexible torque transmission coupling including circumferentially spaced, axially aligned holes in the center member, pilot ring and hub of the coupling for ease of assembly and disassembly of the coupling. The same bolts are used to both assemble the coupling for normal operation and disassemble the coupling.

Piloted flexible coupling

A method of rigidifying the normally flexible joint of a flexible torque transmission coupling without the use of support arbors. The joint of the coupling is axially compressed to provide both angular and axial rigidity of the coupling prior to balancing in a conventional manner. The method of compressing the joint may be adapted to accommodate the particular coupling being balanced.
