A seal including a mandrel, an element and a backup disposed on the mandrel adjacent the element. A backup ring for a seal assembly including a body having a radially outer surface and a radially inner surface, an opening in the body extending from the radially outer surface toward the radially inner surface, the opening being receptive to a line to guide and protect the line. A wellbore system including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string disposed in the borehole, a seal system disposed in the string, the system including a backup ring comprising a body having a radially outer surface and a radially inner surface and an opening in the body extending from the radially outer surface toward the radially inner surface, the opening being receptive to a line to guide and protect the line and a method for running a line along a seal system.

Backup ring with control line protection, systems, and methods

A sub having an anti-rotation feature for a resource exploration and recovery system includes a tubular having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flow bore. A sleeve is slideably disposed in the flow bore between a first position and a second position. The sleeve includes an inner surface portion having a taper. A dart including an end portion is disposed in the sleeve. The dart is configured to shift the sleeve between the first position and the second position when exposed to a selected pressure in the flowbore. The end portion includes a tapered section. The tapered section mating with the taper formed in the inner surface to rotatably lock the plug to the inner surface of the sleeve.

A liner plug assembly includes liner plug for use in a casing. The liner plug includes a body for plugging the casing and a body fragmentation feature in the body for catching a cutter of a drill bit used to cut the body. The liner plug assembly includes the lead plug.

Cement plug fragmentation enhancement

A material that dissolves or disintegrates is secured to an inside surface of tubular goods before swaging or expansion takes place. The material remains in position as the swaging occurs and post expansion is removed leaving a recess of a desired shape to function for a variety of purposes depending on its shape and location. At the end of a tubular it can serve as a bell into which the next string is expanded for a monobore completion. In other locations in a tubular it can function as a landing collar for a variety of tools. It can also function as a seal bore as the added material is removed preferably with water. The preferred material is an alloy of aluminum, tin and zinc.

Removable insert for formation of a recess in a tubular by expansion

An expansion and cementing assembly is run into the well as the expandable liner is made up. A work string is tagged into the expansion assembly and run to depth. Pressure drives the swage to initially expand and move uphole with the attached work string until the liner is expanded above the location of the subsequent cement placement. The assembly is then lowered to engage the guide/float shoe to perform the cementing step. The swage assembly is then released from the guide/float shoe and the balance of the expansion is performed without further expansion against the recently placed cement. The expansion assembly can start at the guide/float shoe or higher, in which case expansion can occur initially in a downhole direction and later be completed in an uphole direction. Variations without cementing are also contemplated.

Method and apparatus for expanded liner extension using downhole then uphole expansion

An expansion assembly is run into the well as the expandable liner is made up. A work string is tagged into the expansion assembly and run to depth. Pressure drives the swage to initially expand and move uphole with the attached work string until the liner is expanded to set at least one external packer. The balance of the expansion in the uphole direction is continued until the string is expanded into sealing support of a higher string in the wellbore and the variable swage comes out of the hole with the work string. A shoe is milled out and the process can be repeated.

Method and apparatus for expanded liner extension using uphole expansion

An apparatus to protect the mounting area of casing and a locating profile and optionally a sliding sleeve valve and a flow path from the outside of the valve to the annulus when subsequent attachment of an expanded liner is intended and the expanded liner is to be cemented in place. A barrier sleeve, nose, and outer sleeve define a sealed cavity having a loose incompressible material inside that covers the mounting location on the casing. A locating profile and an optional sliding sleeve valve and a flow path from the outside of the valve to the annulus can be provided. The cementing of the casing takes place through the barrier sleeve. After the cementing, the sleeve and nose are drilled out and the incompressible material is removed to the surface with the drill cuttings. A liner is inserted in the casing and is preferably expanded into sealing contact.

One trip cemented expandable monobore liner system and method

An apparatus to protect the mounting area of casing and a locating profile and optionally a sliding sleeve valve and a flow path is provided from the outside of the valve to the annulus when subsequent attachment of an expanded liner is intended and the expanded liner is to be cemented in place.

A torque transfer arrangement includes a relatively immobile construct; a relatively mobile construct. The relatively mobile construct is radially adjacent the relatively immobile construct. One or more torque body assemblies are mounted to the relatively mobile construct. The assemblies are radially responsive to applied hydraulic pressure to contact a surface of a separate structure and transmit torque from the arrangement to the separate structure. A method is included.

A barrier sleeve, nose, and outer sleeve define a sealed cavity having a loose incompressible material inside that covers the mounting location on the casing. A locating profile and an optional sliding sleeve valve and a flow path from the outside of the valve to the annulus can be provided. The cementing of the casing takes place through the barrier sleeve. After the cementing, the sleeve and nose are drilled out and the incompressible material is removed to the surface with the drill cuttings. A liner is inserted in the casing and is preferably expanded into sealing contact with the mounting location on the casing. After expansion a cement retainer positioned at the bottom of the expanded liner and the sliding sleeve located either above the mounting location of the liner in the casing shoe or in the liner below the mounted top section allow cement to be delivered outside the expanded liner and the displaced wellbore fluid to return into the casing through so that the liner can be cemented. The cement retainer can be delivered with either the liner or the expansion tools to allow expansion and cementing in a single trip. A shifting tool can be run on the expansion string to actuate the sliding sleeve and if necessary to allow for cement to be pumped from the drill string into the annulus through the sliding sleeve. The cement retainer can be milled out in a separate trip.

The cement retainer can be delivered with either the liner or the expansion tools to allow expansion and cementing in a single trip. A shifting tool can be run on the expansion string to actuate the sliding sleeve and if necessary to allow for cement to be pumped from the drill string into the annulus through the sliding sleeve. The cement retainer can be milled out in a separate trip.

A downhole tool with a mandrel that is expanded downhole is further actuated due to relative longitudinal movement between the mandrel and a member that accommodates radial expansion without undergoing as much shrinkage as the expanded mandrel or any shrinkage at all. In a packer application, the packer can be set in open hole or cased hole and the relative longitudinal movement that results from mandrel expansion leaves a residual longitudinal compressive force on the sealing element and a tensile reaction force on the underlying mandrel.
