Systems and methods for drying or bonding materials are described. A material to be dried or bonded may be passed through a through air dryer (TAD) (or other dryer). Some of the air output by a TAD may be recirculated to be passed back through material. As the air is recirculated, it is heated and mixed to a desired temperature for drying or bonding. A separate hot air injection system may heat ambient air and/or air exhausted by the TAD and inject the heated air into the recirculated air.

Through air drying systems and methods with hot air injection

The invention relates to a drying section and comprises one or more through air drying cylindersand a permeable fabricthat runs in a loop and wraps part of the circumference of each through air drying cylinder. The loop of the fabricis divided in a web-carrying partand a conditioning part. The web-carrying part extends from a receiving pointto a transfer pointwhere a fibrous web is transferred to a further component. The conditioning part extends from the transfer pointto the receiving point. The conditioning part has a cleaning sectioncomprising a showerto wash residue from the fabric. A dewatering sectionis arranged to act on the fabricafter the cleaning section and comprises one or several suction dewatering devices. An applicator sectionis arranged in the conditioning partafter the dewatering section. The applicator section comprises an applicatorfor applying release agent on the fabric. The dewatering sectionof the fabric loop comprises a substantially vertical run VR of the fabric which does not deviate more than 30&#xb0; from a vertical plane and a suction dewatering deviceis placed along the vertical run of the fabricon the web-contacting side of the fabric. The dewatering section either comprises a further suction dewatering device placed along the vertical run of the fabric on the side of the fabricthat is opposite the web-contacting side or it has room for installing a further suction dewatering device of the same size as the suction dewatering devicethat is located on the web-contacting side of the fabric.

Drying section of a papermaking machine comprising one or more through air drying cylinders

The invention relates to a suction device () for use in a papermaking machine and being suitable for acting on a wet fibrous web through a permeable fabric (), e.g. a through-air-drying (TAD)-fabric. The suction device has a fabric-facing surface () formed by a plurality of end surfaces of solid elements (). Channels () are defined between the solid elements. The end surface of the final solid element () does not lie in the same plane as the end surfaces of the previous solid elements (). Thereby, a gap A is formed between the fabric () and the final solid element (). This allows air to flow through the gap and into a final channel (). The air flow will then catch fines, small fibers and water droplets and draw them into the final channel () thereby counteracting a build-up of large lumps of fines and fibers.

Suction device for use in a papermaking machine and a papermaking machine using a suction device

Paper machine for manufacturing a fiber web of paper without through air drying (TAD) or pressing, comprising: a wet end, having a wire section with at least one forming wire, a clothing, being air and water permeable, and a dewatering unit for dewatering the fiber web; and a drying section, comprising a drying surface for the fiber web; and also a transfer roll for transferring the fiber web to the drying section, wherein the fiber web is supported by said clothing from the wire section all the way to and over the transfer roll. The clothing has a three dimensional structure for structuring the fiber web.

Paper machine and method for manufacturing paper

An apparatus is provided for conditioning a fabric being advanced in a machine direction in a papermaking machine. The fabric has an outer side adapted to engage a paper web and an opposing inner side. Such an apparatus comprises a fluid-emitting device configured to wet the fabric with a fluid so as to clean the fabric. An arcuate member disposed downstream of the fluid-emitting device is configured to engage the outer side of the fabric. More particularly, the arcuate member is configured to have the fabric wrapped at least partially thereabout such that the advancing fabric is centrifugally dewatered. Associated systems and methods are also provided.

Apparatus for conditioning a fabric in a papermaking machine and associated method

An apparatus for decreasing heat emission and enhancing a vacuum system in a papermaking machine is provided. Such an apparatus includes a drying device having an inlet for receiving heated air for removing moisture from a paper web and an outlet for exhausting the moisture-containing air from the drying device. A vacuum system is configured to produce a suction and receive the moisture-containing air. A web handling device is disposed upstream of the drying device and is configured to interact with the web before the web is directed to the drying device. The web handling device is further configured to receive a portion of the moisture-containing air from the drying device, wherein the portion of the moisture-containing air is directed through the web by the web handling device to facilitate dewatering of the web before the moisture-containing air is received by the vacuum system. The web handling device is also configured to provide the moisture-containing air at a supply pressure with respect to the suction produced by the vacuum system such that the web handling device operates at an above-ambient pressure. Associated apparatuses and methods are also provided.

Apparatus for dewatering a paper web and associated system and method

A device is provided for dewatering a fabric in which the fabric is used in a papermaking process that exposes it to water before it is directed to the fabric dewatering device. The fabric dewatering device includes leading and trailing guide rolls about which the fabric is partially wrapped to form a loop portion. The loop portion is suspended between the leading and trailing guide rolls and includes a trough portion with a relatively small diameter that is positioned below the axes of the guide rolls. Running the fabric through the trough portion at high speeds exposes the water trapped therein to high centrifugal forces. The centrifugal forces expel the water from the fabric. The geometry and positioning of the trough portion is maintained either through a difference in fabric speed maintained by the leading and trailing nips or by the use of a rider roll positioned within the loop. A non-contact sensor in proximity to the trough portion senses the position of the trough portion and provides feedback to a controller which controls the motion of the rolls.

Fabric dewatering device and method

A compact multilevel paper making machine is provided comprising a web-receiving region where a web of paper is received on a fabric forming a continuous loop, a reel-up for winding the paper web onto a roll, and a web transfer point disposed between the web-receiving region and the reel-up. The fabric receives the web at the web-receiving region and then supports and transports the web from the web-receiving region to the web transfer point in a first direction on a first defined vertical level. At the web transfer point, the web is separated from the fabric. The fabric loop further includes a return run from the web transfer point to the web-receiving region over which the fabric then travels. A cleaning section is also disposed along the return run of the fabric loop for cleaning the fabric. Following separation from the fabric, the web is transported to the reel-up in a second direction, generally opposite to the first direction, and on a second defined vertical level different from the first defined vertical level. The second defined vertical level may be either above or below the first defined vertical level, wherein a defined vertical level may comprise, for instance, a floor of a building. Dryers are also provided before and/or after the web transfer region for drying the web and are accordingly disposed on the different defined vertical levels. Thus, by configuring the paper making machine to transport the web between different defined vertical levels, a compact multilevel paper making machine having a small footprint is provided for limited-space installations.

Compact multilevel paper making machine for manufacturing a web of paper

An apparatus and associated method for drying a wet web of paper comprising a drying section for increasing the dry solids content of a wet web of paper, a cleaning section disposed at least not above the drying section, and a continuous drying fabric forming a loop at least about the drying section and the cleaning section. The fabric receives the web along an upper portion of the loop before the drying section, wherein the web is supported on an upper surface of the fabric. The fabric then transports the web through the drying section in a non-inverting web run to increase the dry solids content of the web before the web is separated from the fabric. Once web is separated from the fabric, the fabric travels through the cleaning section to be cleaned before returning to receive more of the wet paper web thereon.

Apparatus and associated method for drying a wet web of paper

An apparatus for drying a wet web of paper comprising at least one through-air dryer, each dryer including a rotatable cylinder having a porous cylindrical deck, at least one continuous drying fabric wrapped about a portion of the circumference of the deck, a plurality of fabric support members positioned relative to each cylinder so as to direct the fabric and the web onto and from each cylinder, and a hood and a plenum cooperating to form a substantially sealed enclosure containing each cylinder. The drying fabric is adapted to support and transport the paper web about a portion of the circumference of the cylinder of each dryer. The fabric support members preferably include a first fabric support member located at an upstream end of the apparatus for directing the wet web and the fabric onto the cylinder of the upstream through-air dryer, and a second fabric support member located at a downstream end of the apparatus for directing the web and the fabric from the cylinder of the downstream through-air dryer. The hood further interacts with at least the first and the second fabric support members and covers a portion of each cylinder about which the fabric and the wet web are wrapped. Further, the plenum cooperates with the hood and at least the first and the second fabric support members to substantially seal the enclosure containing each cylinder. Preferably, and more specifically, the plenum forms seals with both the first and the second fabric support members with at least one of the seals being formed by the plenum sealingly engaging the fabric wrapped about the corresponding fabric support member.

Seal arrangement for through-air drying papermaking machine

A through-air drying apparatus for drying a traveling wet paper web supported on a continuous fabric comprises a dryer roll about which the fabric and web are partially wrapped and which has a foraminous roll face, a supply hood which surrounds the portion of the roll about which the fabric and web are wrapped and which supplies heated air through the fabric and web and through the roll face into the interior of the roll, and an exhaust system for exhausting air from the roll. An axial exhaust passage is formed through at least one head of the roll. An exhaust manifold is connected to the exhaust passage and defines two outlets on opposite sides of the manifold. A pair of movable ducts are sealingly and releasably engaged with the outlets in the opposite sides of the manifold, the ducts being spaced apart on opposite sides of the roll so that an access space is defined between the two ducts for access to the roll and supply hood. The movable ducts are pivotally connected to fixed ducts by bendable bellows sections of the movable ducts and by hinges. The movable ducts pivot about axes parallel to the rotation axis of the dryer roll such that the ducts extend axially beyond the roll by about the same axial extent in both the open and closed positions. The duct system is also suitable for supplying air to the interior of a roll in an outward-flow type of through-air drying apparatus.
