Aspects of the disclosure regard a fan case assembly for a gas turbine engine, the fan case assembly comprising a fan case having an inner surface and an outer surface, a front acoustic panel having an outer surface, and attachment means attaching the front acoustic panel outer surface to the fan case inner surface. The attachment means comprise a sliding arrangement allowing the front acoustic panel to be slid axially into the fan case. The sliding arrangement comprises a first longitudinal member and a second longitudinal member, one of the members being attached to the fan case inner surface and the other member being attached to the front acoustic panel outer surface. The attachment means further comprise removable fastening means fixing the first longitudinal member and the second longitudinal member in the axial direction.

The acoustic panel comprises a plurality of acoustic panel members arranged adjacent to one another to form a substantially complete ring of the acoustic panel. A first acoustic panel member of the plurality of acoustic members is adjacent to a second acoustic panel member of the plurality of acoustic members. The first acoustic panel member is removably secured to the second acoustic panel member by a releasable fastening assembly.

In addition, the acoustic panel is secured to the casing by at least one securement mechanism such that the acoustic panel is substantially circumferentially fixed relative to the casing.

According to one aspect, an apparatus includes a first member that has a first aperture and a second member adjacent to the first member and having a second aperture extending between opposed first and second faces of the second member and aligned with the first aperture to define a combined aperture that has a longitudinal extent. The second aperture is defined by a surface that has a portion having an extent transverse to the longitudinal extent. The apparatus further includes at least a portion of a fastener disposed in the combined aperture. The fastener has a first end proximal the first member and a second end proximal the second member and includes a first retaining member in contact with the first member, a second retaining member in interfering relationship with the portion, and a third retaining member in contact with the second face.

According to one aspect, a flange fastening assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a first flange having a first hole therein, a second flange having a second hole disposed adjacent to the first flange, and a shoulder bolt disposed through the first hole and the second hole. The shoulder bolt has a head portion, a stem portion, and a thread portion, and the stem portion and the thread portion define a shoulder. A bolt nut is disposed on the thread portion and a first spacer is disposed between the bolt nut and the first flange such that the first spacer overhangs the shoulder.

According to one aspect, a method of releasing a fan blade for testing a turbofan engine includes providing an internal passage with a constant arc through an airfoil arranged about a blisk such that the constant arc of the internal passage aligns with a contour of the blisk. The method further includes packing the internal passage with a charge, modifying the airfoil such that the airfoil is released from the blisk evenly along a chordwise length of the airfoil, and detonating the charge such that the airfoil is released from the blisk at a selected time.
