An electronic device may include a display having an array of display pixels and having display control circuitry that controls the operation of the display. The display control circuitry may adaptively adjust the spectral characteristics of display light emitted from the display to achieve a desired effect on the human circadian system. For example, the display control circuitry may adjust the spectral characteristics of blue light emitted from the display based on the time of day such that a user's exposure to the display light may result in a circadian response similar to that which would be experienced in natural light. The spectral characteristics of blue light emitted from the display may be adjusted by adjusting the relative maximum power levels provided to blue pixels in the display or by shifting the peak wavelength associated with blue light emitted from the display.

Displays with adaptive spectral characteristics

Ground detection of a touch sensitive device is disclosed. The device can detect its grounded state so that poor grounding can be selectively compensated for in touch signals outputted by the device. The device can include one or more components to monitor certain conditions of the device. The device can analyze the monitored conditions to determine the grounding condition of the device. The device can apply a function to compensate its touch signal outputs if the device determines that it is poorly grounded. Conversely, the device can omit the function if the device determines that it is well grounded.

Ground detection for touch sensitive device

A compact portable electronic device packaged into a System-in-Package assembly and thermal solutions for the device is disclosed. The compact portable electronic device can be assembled into a single package to reduce size and enhance form factor. Several tens or hundreds of components including multiple dies, passive components, mechanical or optical components can be packaged into a single system on a printed circuit board. One or more of the components can dissipate a lot of power resulting in the generation of excess heat. To remove the excess heat, the device can include one or more thermal solutions such as internal thermal plugs, heat spreaders, internal embedded heat sinks, and/or external heat sinks. In some examples, the thermal solutions can dissipate heat via conduction to the bottom of the substrate or via convection to the top of the system or a combination of both.

Thermal solutions for system-in-package assemblies in portable electronic devices

An improved meter and its operation is described. The meter can be a part of a larger automated meter reading process that allows for remote reading of the meter though power line communication. Using a microcomputer core, the meter processes incoming analog data and can calculate several relevant data values need by utility providers. The meter can also be used to monitor and detect tampering dry connect/voltage free devices, such as gas and water meters, connected to the meter.

An apparatus and method for caching data in a storage device of a computer system. A relatively high-speed, intermediate-volume storage device is operated as a user-configurable cache. Requests to access a mass storage device such as a disk or tape are intercepted by a device driver that compares the access request against a directory of the contents of the user-configurable cache. If the user-configurable cache contains the data sought to be accessed, the access request is carried out in the user-configurable cache instead of being forwarded to the device driver for the target mass storage device. Because the user-cache is implemented using memory having a dramatically shorter access time than most mechanical mass storage devices, the access request is fulfilled much more quickly than if the originally intended mass storage device was accessed. Data is preloaded and responsively cached in the user-configurable cache memory based on user preferences.
