The present invention relates to the use of a combination comprising at least one host defense inducer and at least one biological control agent in a synergistically effective amount for controlling bacterial harmful organisms in useful plants. The biological control agent is selected from specific microorganisms and/or a mutant of these strains having all the identifying characteristics of the respective strain, and/or a metabolite produced by the respective strain. In a preferred aspect of the invention the host defense inducer is isotianil or a combination of isotianil and acibenzolar-S-methyl. The present invention also relates to a method for controlling bacterial harmful organisms in useful plants by treatment with a combination comprising at least one host defense inducer and at least one biological control agent in a synergistically effective amount. A further aspect of the present invention is directed to method for controlling bacterial harmful organisms in useful plants by subjecting the plants to be protected against attack by bacterial harmful organisms to two or more sequential treatment blocks.

This invention provides a novel endophytic fungus,, that produces a mixture of volatile antibiotics with activity on specific plant pathogens, bacteria, nematodes and insects. Also provided is a method for treating or protecting plants, soil and seeds from microbial infections comprising applying an effective amount of a volatile antibiotic producingsp. The invention also relates to fungicidal, bactericidal, insecticidal and nematicidal compositions comprising this novelstrain and the antibiotics and metabolites produced by this strain either alone, or in combination with other chemical and biological pesticides. Also provided is a method for identifying and isolating related gas producing fungi.

This invention is directed tomutants which produce a factor which potentiates the pesticidal activity of arelated pesticide, a chemical pesticide and/or a virus with pesticidal properties.

Mutants which produce a potentiator of bacillus pesticidal activity

A novel strain of that produces metabolites and exhibits pesticidal activity is disclosed. In addition, a supernatant of the novel strain with pesticidal activity is disclosed. An ethyl acetate-soluble, small molecular weight, alkali stable, metabolite produced by the novel strain with pesticidal activity against lepidopteran insects is provided. Also included are methods for fermenting the novel strain of and increasing the bioactivity of the pesticidal activity. Also included are methods for protecting or treating plants from caterpillars comprising the step of applying to a plant an effective amount of the novel strain, the metabolites produced by the strain, or a combination thereof.

Streptomyces strain with insecticidal activity and method of using as an insecticide

The present invention relates to a novel antibiotic-producing and metabolite-producing strain that exhibits insecticidal, antifungal and antibacterial activity. The supernatant of this novel strain contains effective insecticidal, antifungal and antibacterial agents. Also included in the invention is a solvent extractable, small molecular weight (<10,000 daltons) corn rootworm-active metabolite produced in the supernatant. Also included in the invention are methods of protecting or treating plants from fungal and bacterial infections and corn rootworm infestations comprising the step of applying to the plant an effective amount of the antibiotic/metabolite-producing novel strain, the antibiotic/metabolite produced by the novel strain or a combination thereof, optionally further comprising another antibiotic-producing bacterial strain and/or a chemical pesticide. The invention also includes methods of preventing or treating fungal and bacterial infections using whole broth cultures or supernatants obtained from cultures of the novel stain alone or in combination with chemical pesticides and/or other biocontrol agents. The invention also includes novel antifungal and antibacterial compounds designated agrastatins and a novel combination comprising an A-type iturin, a plipastatin, a surfactin and an agrastatin. Methods of treating or protecting plants from fungal and bacterial infections and corn rootworm infestations comprising administering the novel agrastatins and the novel combination comprising an A-type iturin, a plipastatin, a surfactin and an agrastatin are provided. Further provided is a lipopeptide extract isolated from strain AQ713 with insecticidal activity and a surfactin lipopeptide isolated from strain AQ713 with insecticidal activity.

A novel antibiotic-producing Bacillus sp. is provided that exhibits antifungal activity only on certain specific plant pathogens and no antibacterial activity is provided by this invention, as well as a biologically pure culture of a strain having all the identifying characteristics of this strain. Also provided is a method of treating or protecting plants, fruit and roots from fungal infections by applying an effective amount of these strains, supernatants produced by these strains or a metabolite isolated from these strains. The invention further encompasses the synergistic fungicidal effect of using a strain of NRRL Accession Nos. B-30087 together with B-21661 (AQ 713).
