A display device comprises a sensing subsystem configured to detect one or more conditions associated with touch input to the display device occurring via a contact of an input object at a surface of the display device. The display device further comprises a microphone system configured to receive sound, a logic machine, and a storage machine holding instructions. The instructions are executable by the logic machine to determine, based on the one or more conditions, a time of the contact; determine, based on at least the time of the contact, some characteristics of the contact; and generate an audio output via applying a selective attenuation to process sound received into the microphone system. The selective attenuation is selected based on the sonic characteristics and applied over a time interval beginning at the determined time of contact.

Selective attenuation of sound for display devices

Examples are described for touch-sensitive displays in which ground references for associated electronics are isolated from one another. In one example, a touch-sensitive display includes a display panel, and a touch sensor, the touch sensor including a receive electrode, the touch sensor including a transmit electrode, the receive electrode and the transmit electrode overlaying the display panel, and wherein a ground reference of the receive and/or the transmit electrode is isolated from a ground reference of the display panel, thereby creating a transmission-inhibiting communication boundary between the display panel and the touch sensor, the touch sensor communicatively connected to the display panel so as to exchange data between ground domains separated by the boundary.

An active stylus includes a body, an electrical connector operatively coupled to the body, wired connection circuitry contained within the body and electrically coupled to the electrical connector, and electrostatic circuitry contained within the body and electrically coupled to the electrical connector. The electrical connector is configured to electrically couple the active stylus with a device via a wired connection. The wired connection circuitry is configured to hold at least a portion of the electrical connector at ground when the active stylus is operating in a wired connection mode. The electrostatic circuitry is configured to transmit, via the electrical connector, one or more excitation waveforms when the active stylus is operating in an electrostatic mode.

An interactive stylus for use with an interactive display device is provided. The interactive stylus includes a stylus body having a first end, where the first end is configured to be used by a user to provide a first function and a second function. The interactive stylus further includes a controller configured to cause the first end to be driven so as to capacitively couple the first end with an electrode matrix of the interactive display device, where such capacitive coupling is associated with the first function, and where the second function is disabled in response to automatically sensing, without explicit user input, a user's intent to use the first function.

A discrete circuit multiplexing system in an interactive stylus is provided. The discrete circuit multiplexing system includes a first electrode and second electrode positioned in a stylus body, with a shared transmitting sub-system coupled to the first electrode and the second electrode. The circuit further includes a microcontroller configured to cause selective transmission of waveforms from the shared transmitting sub-system to the first electrode and the second electrode to selectively stimulate either the first electrode or the second electrode.
