Water-soluble monoazo dyes for nylon having the formula: ##STR1## wherein ring A may optionally be substituted by halogen, trifluoromethyl, alkoxy, acylamino or alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R represents hydrogen or unbranched alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sup.1 represents hydrogen, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, X represents unbranched alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl, halogen, nitro, trifluoromethyl, sulpho, vinylsulphonyl, hydroxyethylsulphonyl, sulphatoethylsulphonyl, --SO.sub.2 NHR.sup.2, wherein R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or --COOR.sup.3 wherein R.sup.3 represents hydrogen, alkyl having from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl or aryl, and n represents an integer of from 0 to 3. The dyes are suitable for application to polyamide textile materials. They give a high degree of thermal stability and fastness to wet treatments and to light.

These dyes are useful for coloring cellulosic textile materials as well as textile materials based on natural or synthetic nitrogenous fibers such as wool, silk and nylon.

Monoazo dyestuffs of the formula ##STR1## wherein the hydroxyl group is in the 2- or 4- position relative to the azo group, R.sup.1 represents hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy and R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or lower alkyl with the proviso that when said hydroxyl group is in the 4- position relative to the azo group and one of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is lower alkyl and the other is hydrogen, the said lower alkyl is in a position other than meta to said hydroxyl group. The dyestuffs are useful as acid dyes for Nylon.

4(2'-Nitro-4'-sulfoanilino) phenyl azo hydroxyphenyl dyes

Water-soluble azo dye which, in the form of the free acid, has the formula ##STR1## WHEREIN A represents lower alkyl, hydroxy lower alkyl or phenyl and R represents hydrogen, lower alkyl or hydroxy lower alkyl and A, when phenyl, and ring B is unsubstituted or substituted by nitro, alkyl or alkoxy, m has a value of 0 or 1 and E represents a residue selected from: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.5 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy lower alkyl or benzyl, R.sup.6 represents lower alkyl or hydroxy lower alkyl and R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 each independently represent hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or acetylamino; and ##STR3## WHEREIN R.sup.9 represents lower alkyl, hydroxy lower alkyl, sulphato lower alkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or hydroxy and p has a value of 0 or 1 with the proviso that there are no more than two sulpho groups in said dye. The dye is useful to color natural and synthetic polyamide textile materials.

Water-soluble diazotized amino azo dyestuff coupled with an amino-phenyl

Monoazo dyestuffs having the general formula: ##STR1## in which the hydroxyl group is in the 2- or 4-position relative to the azo group and wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or alkoxy group and R.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom or alkyl group. The dyestuffs are useful as acid dyes for nylon.

A process for the coloration of polyamide textile materials which comprises treating a polyamide textile material with an aqueous solution of an azo dye of the formula: ##SPC1## Wherein A represents the residue of a diazo component of the benzene or naphthalene series; X represent =N--, ##EQU1## Y represents chlorine or bromine; Q.sup.1 represents --O-- or --S--; Q.sup.2 represents a direct link, --O--, --CO--, --SO.sub.2 --, --SO.sub.2 NH--, --NHSO.sub.2 --, --CONH--, --NHCO--, --COO--, --OCO--, --SO.sub.2 --, --S-- or --NR.sup.4 -- in which R.sup. 4 represents hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sup. 1 represents an alkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene radical; R.sup.2 represents an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical such that R.sup.1 and R.sup. 2 together contain not more than 13 carbon atoms; R.sup.3 represents hydrogen or lower alkyl and ring B may carry one or more substituents.

A water-soluble anthraquinone dye having the general formula: ##SPC1## Wherein Z represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon residue carrying at least one half sulphuric acid ester or sulphonic acid group. The dyes are suitable for the coloration of polyamide textile materials.
