In certain embodiments, a sensing and tracking system detects objects, such as user input devices or peripherals, and user interactions with them. A representation of the objects and user interactions are then injected into the virtual reality environment. The representation can be an actual reality, augmented reality, virtual representation or any combination. For example, an actual keyboard can be injected, but with the keys pressed being enlarged and lighted.

Systems and methods for configuring a hub-centric virtual/augmented reality environment

In some embodiments, a system comprising one or more processors configured to track a location of an input device within a physical environment via a three-dimensional (3D) tracking system, and modify a tracking parameter of the 3D tracking system while tracking the location of the input device based on the determined location of the input device within the physical environment. The input device may be coupled to a virtual reality display system and tracking the location of the location of the input device can be used for interacting with the virtual reality display system.

Systems and methods for operating an input device in an augmented/virtual reality environment

In some embodiments, an input device for interfacing within an VR/AR environment can include a processor, one or more motion tracking sensors to track a motion of the input device in three-dimensional (3D) space, where a cursor in the VR/AR environment moves based on the tracked motion of the input device in 3D space and is limited to tracked motion having three degrees of freedom (DOF). The input device can further include a button that, when activated, selects an application window in the VR/AR environment when the cursor is placed over the application window, where the application window moves in the VR/AR environment based on the tracked motion of the input device in 3D space while the application window is selected. The input device can include a user interface that, when activated, accesses and controls content on the selected application window.

Aspects of the invention relate to an apparatus including a housing and a slot disposed in the housing, the slot configured to hold an input device in a plurality of upright configurations including at least a forward-facing upright configuration such that the input device faces the front portion of the housing, and at least a backward-facing upright configuration such that the input device faces the back portion of the housing. The slot can be overmolded with a rubber compound (e.g. silicon-based) and configured to provide an improved coefficient of friction to reduce slippage of the input device when held in the slot. In some aspects, the housing includes a surface, and the overmolded portion of the slot can protrude above the surface of the housing.

Certain embodiments relate to a protective cover with a housing and a latch mechanism. The latch can be hingeably coupled to a back portion of the housing such that the latch is configured to rotate, via the hinge coupling, from a closed position to an open position. The latch can further be slideably coupled to the housing such that the latch is configured to laterally slide out from the back portion of the housing to an extended position, where the bottom side of the latch can be configured to couple to and secure an input device to the surface of the housing.

In certain embodiments, a protective cover includes a housing having a surface, and a latch mechanism hingeably coupled to the housing. The latch can include a top side and a bottom side, the bottom side configured to couple to and secure an input device to the surface of the housing. The latch can be configured to rotate, via the hinge coupling, between a first configuration and second configuration. In the first configuration, the top side of the latch can be flush with the surface of the housing and the bottom side embedded within the housing such that the latch does not protrude from the housing. In the second configuration, the latch can be rotated relative to the first configuration and protrude from the housing. The latch can be operable to be rotated open from the first configuration to the second configuration via the hinge coupling.

A control devices includes a key having a top surface configured to be pressed by a user, and a resistance device coupled to the key and configured to provide a resistance force to the key that opposes a user force applied to the top surface. A force sensor is coupled to the resistance device and is configured to detect the user force applied to top surface. A control circuit is coupled to the resistance device and is configured to change the resistance force of the resistance device according to a force profile.

A control device includes a processor and a control button. The control button includes a key and an analog sensor coupled to the processor. The key is configured to be moved in a first direction and a second direction, which is substantially opposite from the first direction. The analog sensor is configured to detect an amount of movement of the key in the first direction and the second direction and send a control signal to the processor to indicate the amount of movement. Based on the control signal, the processor is configured to control zoom of a graphical object displayed on a computer monitor at a rate that is based on the amount of movement.
