A method for integrating graphical logging content of a subterranean wellbore includes processing a plurality of digitized display images and relevant context information to generate a single synchronized display image including representations of each of the plurality of display image. The plurality of digitized display images and relevant context information are received at a central processor from a corresponding plurality of source tools or source processors. The display images are representative of subterranean wellbore conditions.

Visualization integration of graphical logging content

An interactive display of results obtained from the inversion of logging data is produced by obtaining and inverting the logging data using a Monte-Carlo inversion. An interactive plot having a percentile scale plotted against a location parameter is produced and a particular percentile is selected using the interactive plot. A cross-section plot for the particular percentile using the results of the Monte-Carlo inversion is produced. The particular percentile can be a curve representing a best-fit solution or a polyline representing selected solutions. Background color/shading can be displayed on the interactive plot to indicate user-defined constraints have been applied. Uncertain features can be plotted on a corresponding cross-section display using fading. Clusters of solutions that are substantially equally likely, given the measurements at a particular drill location, can be identified and plotted. A cross-section constructed from the layered models belonging to a particular cluster can be overlaid on another cross-section.

Interactive display of results obtained from the inversion of logging data

A method can include receiving data that characterizes anisotropy of a formation; receiving a model that models one or more planes of weakness in an anisotropic formation; and, based at least in part on the model and the data, outputting information germane to stability of a bore in an anisotropic formation.

A method of interpreting petrophysical measurement data include arranging measurements of at least one physical property of formations into a matrix representing the measurements and selecting a range of number of unobserved factors or latent variables for factor analysis. Factor analysis is performed on the measurement matrix and comprises performing factorization of measurements matrix into a number of factorsand performing rotation of the factorization results. Whether the factor loadings for each factor have achieved a 'simple structure' is determined and either each of the selected number of factors is associated with a physical parameter of the formations, or one is added to the number of factors and factor analysis and rotation are repeated until factor loadings of all factors have achieved 'simple structure' such that the each of the number of factors is associated with a physical property of the formations.

Identifying formation, matrix and fluid related characteristics from subsurface data using factor analysis

A method for visualizing parametric logging data includes interpreting logging data sets, each logging data set corresponding to a distinct value of a progression parameter, calculating a geometric image including a representation of data from each of the logging data sets corresponding to a wellbore measured depth, and displaying the geometric image(s) at a position along a well trajectory corresponding to the wellbore measured depth. The progression parameter includes time, a resistivity measurement depth, differing tool modes that are sampling different volumes of investigation, and/or sampling different physical properties. The geometric images include a number of parallel lines having lengths determined according to the logging data and/or an azimuthal projection of the logging data, a number of concentric axial projections, and/or shapelets determined from parallel lines and/or concentric axial projections. The method includes dynamically determining a selected measured depth, measured depth interval, and/or azimuthal projection angle.

Method and apparatus for visualizing multi-dimensional well logging data with shapelets

During a drilling operation, measured data from the drilling operation may be received with a panistic inversion and risk estimate module. The panistic inversion and risk estimate module may generate a plurality of mathematical solutions from a panistic inversion that uses the measured data and one or more earth models. The one or more earth models having various parameters may be selected prior to drilling and/or while the drilling operation occurs. For each solution of the plurality of mathematical solutions generated from the panistic inversion, the panistic inversion and risk estimate module may determine if the measured data exceeds one or more probability risk thresholds associated with the drilling operation. If the measured data exceeds the probability risk threshold associated with the drilling operation, then the panistic inversion and risk estimate module may generate an alert.

System and method for controlling and monitoring a drilling operation using refined solutions from a panistic inversion

A method and system for producing look-ahead profiles measurements includes positioning an energy transmitter, such as a transmitting antenna, proximate to a borehole assembly tool. One or more energy receivers, such as receiving antennas, are positioned along a length of the borehole assembly. Next, energy is transmitted to produce look-ahead scans relative to the borehole assembly tool. Look-ahead graph data with an x-axis being a function of a time relative to the position of the borehole assembly tool is generated. The look-ahead graph is produced and displayed on a display device. The look-ahead graph may track estimated formation values based on earth models. The estimated formation values are displayed below a tool position history line that is part of the look-ahead graph. The estimated formation values in the look-ahead graph may be based on inversions of resistivity data from the look-ahead scans.

System and method for producing look-ahead profile measurements in a drilling operation

Various methods are disclosed, comprising obtaining a plurality of raw depth measurements for a wellbore; obtaining survey data about a bottom hole assembly; obtaining depth compensation information; calculating a plurality of compensated depth measurements from the raw depth measurements and the depth compensation information and one or more additional corrections for residual pipe compliance, tide, and rig heave; calculating sag angle and correcting the survey data with the sag angle; determining a high fidelity wellbore trajectory from the compensated depth measurements and the survey data; and then employing the high fidelity wellbore trajectory in various drilling, formation evaluation, and production and reservoir analysis applications. Depth compensation information may comprise at least one of weight on bit, a friction factor, temperature profile, borehole profile, drill string mechanical properties, hookload, and drilling fluid property. The surveys may include both static and continuous surveys.

Method of determining and utilizing high fidelity wellbore trajectory

A method for displaying geologic stress includes determining magnitudes and directions of principal stresses at at least one a selected location. An analog symbol is generated for each magnitude and direction of the principal stresses. The analog symbols include a magnitude descriptor and a direction descriptor. The analog symbols are stored or displayed.

A method for determining dip of rock formations penetrated by a wellbore using multiaxial induction measurements and imaging measurements made from within the wellbore includes estimating dip from the multiaxial induction measurements. A method and apparatus are useful for decomposing a complex distribution of data by modeling the complex distribution as a sum of discrete simple distributions, and processing the simple distributions independently. One or more high resolution logs of a formation property having thin beds is provided for the laminated formation. From this log, the bed boundaries are detected and the facies for each of the beds detected is identified, using one or more high resolution logs of the laminated formation. Each of the identified facies is then defined. One or more squared logs for formation property is then generated by using the imported volumetric descriptions of the facies to generate a value of the formation property for each of the beds. A reconstructed log is generated and compared with a low resolution log of the formation property for laminated formation. By adjusting the values of the squared log the difference between the reconstructed log and the squared log may be minimized. An optimized squared log is output as having the square log and the volumetric analyses thereon.
