This device comprises a side wall (1) fixed to one of the elements and provided with a toothed ring (12) which is, at rest, engaged with a toothed ring (14) connected to a cup which is axially movable, under the action of a plate (26) carrying balls (46), along a control rod extending axially through the toothed ring (12) of the side wall. The cup (16) is extended by a gear pinion (18) engaged with the teeth of a bar (2) for connection to the second element so that the rotation of the pinion results in the rectilinear displacement of the bar (2).

Two diametrically opposed orifices (4, 6) are provided in the framework tube of the backrest of the seat structure and receive the headrest support bar (1) which extends therethrough. A locking lug (10) projecting inside the tube extends into a notch in this bar and immobilizes it. The lug (10) is carried internally by a collar (12) which partly covers the tube (2) and extends round the upper orifice receiving the bar (1). A guide socket (24) is fitted into an opening (18) of the collar coaxially with the upper orifice (4).

Device for fixing a headrest on a vehicle seat structure

The device comprises inside a housing (14) a gear pinion (10) connected to rotate solely with a control rod (12) and engaged with a rack carried by a U-section rod (6) connected to the element to be displaced. A bolt (18), formed by two yokes which are pivotable relative to each other, comprises a set of teeth (20) engaged in the locking position with the rack and is retained in its lower part in the housing, so that the axial displacement of the control rod (12) folds it in its central part and releases the rack which can be displaced with the gear pinion. The bolt is resiliently biased to the locking position as soon as the pressure exerted by the rod (12) ceases.
