A low profile surface mount electromagnetic component for multi-phase electrical power circuitry implemented on a circuit board includes a magnetic core structure and at least one dual-winding arrangement including windings of different thickness but each including an elongated planar main winding section extending linearly across the magnetic core structure. One of the elongated planar main winding sections overlies the other, and a separator element separates the elongated planar main winding sections while the windings remain magnetically coupled to one another.

Low profile high current coupled winding electromagnetic component

An electromagnetic component includes a magnetic core and a dual-winding arrangement inside the magnetic core structure. The dual-winding arrangement includes a first winding fabricated from an elongated conductor having a first thickness and defining a first inverted U-shaped main winding portion including out of plane axial bends, and a second winding fabricated from a conductor having a second thickness and being formed into a second inverted U-shaped main winding portion with perpendicular sections extending co-planar to one another without any out of plane axial bends.

High current coupled winding electromagnetic component

An electromagnetic component such as a power inductor includes first and second magnetic core pieces and a preformed conductive coil winding. The coil winding includes a U-shaped winding section including a top winding section and a pair of winding legs extending from opposing ends of the top winding section. The winding legs extend coplanar to one another and are oriented perpendicular to a circuit board in use. The legs are located between the first and second magnetic core pieces, and the top winding section is bent to extend perpendicularly to the plane of the pair of winding legs.

Ultra-narrow high current power inductor for circuit board applications

An inductor includes discrete magnetic core pieces fabricated from different magnetic materials having different magnetic properties. An inverted U-section conductive coil includes a top section and first and second legs to establish a surface mount connection to a circuit board, and the discrete magnetic core pieces are assembled around the inverted U-section conductive coil. The first and second discrete magnetic core pieces are operable to reach magnetic saturation at respectively different current loads applied to the coil when the circuit board is energized, imparting multiple steps of inductance rolloff response to a range of current loads.

Hybrid high current, surface mount swing inductor and fabrication methods

An electromagnetic component assembly includes a first magnetic core piece, a second magnetic core piece, and an inverted U-shaped conductive winding including a base section and first and second legs extending from base section. One of the first and second magnetic core pieces is configured to receive the base section. The first and second magnetic core pieces are gapped from one another to define a first gap, and one of the first and second magnetic core pieces includes a second gap that, in combination with the first gap, allows the component to be operated at more than one stable open circuit inductance (OCL) corresponding to different current loads.

High current swing-type inductor and methods of fabrication

An electromagnetic component such as a power inductor includes first and second magnetic core pieces and a preformed coil winding therebetween. The preformed coil winding includes a top winding section and a pair of coplanar winding legs defining a U-shaped winding section therewith. The pair of winding legs are oriented perpendicular to a circuit board in use. First and second surface mount terminals respectively extend perpendicular to the pair of winding legs in opposing directions to each other, such that each of them extends only on one of the first and second magnetic core pieces but not the other.

A multi-phase integrated power inductor component assembly includes a plurality of conductive windings on an integrated magnetic core structure accepting each of the plurality of conductive windings in a spaced apart, non-coupled arrangement with respect to one another. The integrated magnetic core structure includes a series of magnetic gaps each being respectively centered on one of the plurality of conductive windings. The windings include surface mount terminations for connection to a circuit board.

Integrated multi-phase non-coupled power inductor and fabrication methods

A surface mount power inductor component for a circuit board includes a magnetic body, at least one conductive coil, and surface mount terminations for completing an electrical connection between the conductive coil and the circuit board. One of the body and the surface mount terminations is configured to accommodate a separately provided component in a vertically stacked relation with the separately provided circuit board component being located between the circuit board and the body.

A surface mount, power inductor component assembly includes only two different shapes of modular core pieces and a set of windings having the same shape that can be assembled and arranged to have any desired number of non-magnetically coupled windings to accommodate electrical power systems having different numbers of phases of electrical power. The core pieces and windings are vertically elongated to reduce the component footprint on a circuit board yet provide higher power, higher current capability.

A low profile surface mount electromagnetic component such as a power inductor includes first and second core pieces arranged side by side and having longitudinal side walls facing one another. A preformed coil winding includes vertical legs that are received in vertical slots of the facing longitudinal sidewalls of the component. Inset depressed sections are provided in the top surfaces of the first and second magnetic core pieces and receive a main winding section of the coil winding. Surface mount terminal tabs extend on the bottom surfaces of both the first and second magnetic core pieces.

A power supply for discharge lamp includes a transformer and a current balance device, wherein the transformer includes a primary winding and a secondary winding and the current balance device is coupled between the secondary winding and a plurality of discharge lamps. The current balance device may include a single inductor wherein at least two windings are connected in series with each other and each serially-connected winding is coupled with a discharge lamp, and the other windings are respectively coupled with a discharge lamp. The current balance device may include two inductors wherein at least one winding of a first inductor is connected in series with at least one winding of a second inductor and each serially-connected winding is coupled with a discharge lamp, and the other windings of the first inductor and the other windings of the second inductor are respectively coupled with a discharge lamp.
