The present invention relates to an adsorbent for treating an oil comprising a chlorophyll derivative. In particular, the present disclosure relates to an improved silica gel adsorbent for removing impurities, including chlorophyll derivatives and/or trace metals, from an oil, in particular triacylglycerol-based oils. The adsorbent comprises a silica gel treated with an alkali earth metal oxide, such as magnesium oxide, and has a pH of about 7 or greater and a water content of about 3 wt % or greater.

The present invention provides polymer compositions having improved corrosivity, color stability and clarity. Also disclosed is a process of preparing the polymers. The process may comprise incorporating into the polymer an acid neutralizing amount of an amorphous aluminum silicate. The amorphous aluminum silicate may be present in the polymer in an amount such that the polymer composition having a Corrosivity Index of less than 6. A refractive index of the amorphous aluminum silicate may be the same or substantially the same as a refractive index of the polymer.

The present invention relates to a process for treating an oil comprising a chlorophyll derivative. In particular, the present disclosure relates to an improved process for removing impurities, including chlorophyll derivatives and/or trace metals, from an oil using an adsorbent comprising a silica treated with an alkali earth metal oxide, such as magnesium oxide. The process comprises contacting the oil with the adsorbent, wherein the pH of the silica is about 7 or greater, including from about 7 to about 10. The process may further comprise contacting the oil with a polypeptide having decolorase activity or a composition comprising the polypeptide, prior to contact with the adsorbent.

A coating composition comprising low sodium containing colloidal silicas and ink jet recording sheets prepared from such coatings are described. The coating comprises binder and colloidal silica preferably having an average particle size in the range of about 1 to about 300 nanometers and which has a solids to alkali metal ratio of at least the sum of AW(&#x2212;0.013SSA+9), AW being the atomic weight of alkali metal present in the colloidal silica and SSA being the specific surface area of the silica. It has been discovered that if the alkali metal, e.g., sodium, content of colloidal silica is reduced, coatings prepared from such colloidal silica and applied to conventional ink jet recording sheet supports provide a specular gloss of at least 30 at 60&#xb0; C., even at a relatively high silica solids to binder solids ratio of 1:1 or greater.

Coating composition comprising colloidal silica and glossy ink jet recording sheets prepared therefrom

Formulations comprising novel porous metal oxide particles and binder are particularly suitable for ink receptive coatings, e.g., for ink jet papers and films. The metal oxide particles used in this application have a porous structure that differs significantly from the nonporous silica colloids. The particles have a median particle size in the range of about 0.05 to about 3 microns and porosity such that when an aqueous dispersion of the particles is dried at least 0.5 cc/g of pore volume is from pores having a pore size of 600 &#x212b; or less. The particles also have a viscosity derived pore volume of at least 0.5 cc/g.

A coating composition comprising cationic colloidal silicas and ink jet recording sheets prepared from such coatings is described. The coating comprises binder and polydispersed cationic colloidal silica. The cationic colloidal silica preferably has an average particle size in the range of about 1 to about 300 nanometers. It has been discovered that if a cationic polydispersed colloidal silica is employed in a glossy coating formulation, the coating provides a specular gloss of at least 30 at 60&#xb0; C., even at a relatively high silica solids to binder solids ratio of 1:1 or greater, but also a coating having good to excellent printability characteristics.
