A fusing apparatus for heating and permanently fusing toner powder images onto an image carrying sheet. The fusing apparatus includes a pressure roller; a closed loop magnetic flux carrying member positioned adjacent the pressure roller and including a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The first side is located between the pressure roller and the second side. The fusing apparatus also includes an electrically conductive wire wound about the second side forming a primary transformer coil having N1 number of turns. The primary transformer coil is connectable to an AC power supply source for inductively transferring AC electric energy to the first side. Importantly, the fusing apparatus includes a rotatable fuser roller forming a fusing nip with the pressure roller. The rotatable fuser roller has an electrically conductive layer and a rigid non-conductive core in the form of a ceramic tube underlying the conductive layer. The rotatable fuser roller is mounted around the first side of the closed loop magnetic flux carrying member and forms a secondary transformer coil inductively coupled to the primary transformer coil, and the conductive layer is inductively heated by power dissipated by current induced therein when the primary transformer coil is connected to the AC power supply source.

Apparatus and method for creating quality pictorial color images include a charging device for uniformly charging a photoconductive member of a first tri-level xerographic module to a predetermined voltage level; using a controller and a ROS device for creating tri-level latent electrostatic images including CAD image areas and DAD image areas having different voltage levels respectively; developing the CAD image areas and the DAD image areas with yellow (Y) and a first black (K,) marking materials respectively to form a first composite color separation image of a desired final pictorial image; transferring the first composite color separation image onto an intermediate transfer member; similarly forming and developing a second composite color separation image on a second tri-level xerographic module using Magenta (M) and a second black (K,) marking material; transferring the second composite color separation image, in registration with the first composite color separation image, onto the intermediate transfer member such that yellow Y and the second black K,are superimposable; similarly forming and developing a third composite color separation image on a third tri-level xerographic module using Cyan (C) and an optional color (X,); transferring the third composite color separation image in registration with the first and the second composite color separation images, onto the intermediate transfer member to form a desired final pictorial image including desired color superimpositions; and transferring the desired final pictorial image at a substrate transfer station onto a substrate for fusing.

Tandem tri-level xerographic apparatus and method for producing pictorial color images

Apparatus and method for creating highly registered quality pictorial color images include a first tri-level xerographic module using first and second color marking materials for creating and developing a first tri-level image including custom CAD and custom DAD image areas having different voltage levels respectively to form a first composite color separation image; a transfer station for transferring the first composite color separation image onto an intermediate transfer member; a second tri-level xerographic module using third and fourth color marking materials for similarly creating and developing a second tri-level image including custom CAD and custom DAD image areas having different voltage levels respectively to form a second composite color image; a transfer station for transferring the second composite color separation image, in registration onto the intermediate transfer member; a third tri-level xerographic module using fifth and sixth color marking materials for similarly creating and developing a third tri-level image including custom CAD image areas and custom DAD image areas having different voltage levels respectively to form a third composite color image; wherein pairings of the first and second, third and fourth, and fifth and sixth, color marking materials are selected so that one such pairing is cyan (C) and magenta (M) so as to improve registration of the desired final pictorial image.

An induction heated fusing apparatus having a dual function transformer assembly includes a pressure roller, an induction heatable fuser roller, an electrical circuit subassembly coupled to a primary transformer coil and connectable to an AC power supply source. The electrical circuit assembly includes a bridge circuit and a pair of transistors having their emitters connected to an output of a bridge circuit, their bases connected to opposite ends of an auxiliary conductive coil winding, and their collectors connected to opposite ends of a primary transformer coil, wherein the pair of transistors and the primary transformer coil are alternately driven by voltage changes across the auxiliary conductive coil winding.

Induction heated fusing apparatus having a dual function transformer

Xerographic printing system using a Raster Output Scanning (ROS) system incorporating a two wavelength (.lambda.) laser diode source for the ROS and a charge retentive member in the form of a belt or drum structure which is responsive to the two wavelengths. The printing system utilizes a CAD development system in addition to two DAD developments during the second pass for enabling the addition of a gamut broadening color resulting in process color imaging with an enhanced gamut.

An imaging system is provided which combines the perfect registration capabilities of xerocolography to form perfectly registered red, green and blue images in a single pass in one mode of operation. In another mode of operation, the color gamut possible with RGB toners is extended using black toner to develop an image that is formed using a second imager or exposure device. The result is an extended gamut color imaging process using four colors side by side in a single pass with a minimum amount of color desaturation and with a minimum number of image registrations. Yet another mode of operation provides for creating K+2 colors in a single pass. The three or two colors may be used to form highlight colors and/or logo colors.

Full process color imaging is provided with the use of two xerocolography engines in tandem. Each of the two xerocolography engines is capable of creating three perfectly registered latent images with subsequent development thereof in a spot next to spot manner. Each engine is provided with three developer housing structures containing five different color toners including the three subtractive primary colors of yellow, cyan and magenta. Two of the primary colors plus black are used with one of the engines. The third primary color is used with the second tandem engine which also uses one of the primary colors used with the first engine as well as a fifth color which may be a logo or a gamut extending color. The full process color imaging capability provided is effected without any constraints regarding the capability of the laser imaging device to image through previously developed components of a composite image. Also, the development and cleaning field impracticalities imposed by quad and higher level imaging of the prior art are avoided. Moreover, the number of required image registrations compared to conventional tandem color imaging is minimal. Therefore, only one registration is required compared to three or four by conventional tandem engine imaging systems.

Xerocolography tandem architectures for high speed color printing

Full color, two-pass imaging process using black, magenta, cyan and yellow toners and Non-Interactive Development (NID) without fringe field development. A switchable wavelength flood lamp structure is provided for producing blue and red light. One wavelength is used during the first pass of a photoreceptor through various processing stations for revealing an imagewise voltage for development with magenta toner using an NID system. The other wavelength is used during a second pass of the photoreceptor for revealing another imagewise voltage to be developed with magenta toner.

Full color, single pass and two-pass imaging processes using black, magenta, cyan and yellow toners and Non-interactive Development without fringe field development. Corona discharge is utilized for voltage leveling certain developed images prior to their passage through DAD developer housings. A Raster Output Scanner (ROS) used for creating the latent electrostatic images is also used for voltage leveling of images developed on the first pass of the two pass imaging process in order to remove certain other images for eliminating fringe field images as well as other undesired images.

A non-interactive or scavengeless development system for use in color imaging. To control the developability of lines and the degree of interaction between the toner and receiver, an AC voltage is applied between a donor roll and two sets of interdigitated electrodes embedded in the surface of the donor roll to enable efficient detachment of toner from the donor to form a toner cloud. An optical switching arrangement effects an electrical connection between a slip ring and one set of interdigitated electrodes. The optical switch uses photoconductor elements, each having a geometry that results in an optical switching device having a larger capacitance and therefore capable of effecting switching at lower current densities.

Optically switched commutator scheme for hybrid scavengeless segmented

An electroded donor roll development unit including an electroded donor roll assembly for mounting partially within a mixing chamber of a housing of the development unit for forming a development nip with an image bearing member, and for moving charged toner particles from the mixing chamber to the development nip. The electroded donor roll assembly includes a donor roll having a dielectric layer, and axially extending electrodes formed in the surface of the dielectric layer. The donor roll assembly also includes a bias voltage source for biasing the electrodes and a tri-contact commutator or assembly mounted on the donor roll and connected to the bias voltage source for commutating a bias voltage to the electrodes while significantly reducing and eliminating risk of sporadic electrical arcing during bias commutation. The tri-contact commutator assembly includes a disc forming a circular flange at one end of the donor roll, a series of commutator contact pads connected to the electrodes on the donor roll and having relatively large fanned out spacings between adjacent contact pads. Importantly, the tri-contact commutator assembly includes a plurality of commutating members, connected to the bias voltage source for commutating a bias voltage to the commutator contact pads. The plurality of commutating members include first and second high resistivity members that are spaced from each other circumferentially relative to the circular flange, and a low resistivity, third member spaced from the high resistivity first and second members in a radial direction relative to the circular flange, so as to enable effective commutation of the bias voltage without significant risk of sporadic electrical arcing.

Scavengeless development apparatus including an electroded donor roll

Creation of multiple color images is accomplished in a single pass utilizing a multilayered photoreceptor structure having layers which are responsive to different wavelength lasers. A composite image including three images areas is formed with substantially perfect registration. A CAD and DAD image are developed using CMB development and a second DAD image is developed using a non-interactive development system. Development of the second DAD image without developing halos around the CAD image by recharging the photoreceptor prior to development of the second DAD image.

Development scheme for three color highlight color trilevel xerography

A donor roll for transporting marking particles to an electrostatic latent image recorded on a surface is provided. The donor roll is adaptable for use with an electric field to assist in transporting the marking particles. The donor roll includes a rotatably mounted body. A portion of the body is electrically conductive. The donor roll also includes a dielectric layer mounted on a portion of the electrically conductive portion of the body. The donor roll also includes a first electrode member mounted on the body, adjacent the dielectric layer, and spaced from the electrically conductive portion of the body so that when the electric field is applied to the first electrode member a portion of the field will be transferred to the dielectric layer.
