A wire bending device includes an upright frame and a wire feed hopper for dispensing wire rods. A wire bending section is mounted on the frame, and at least one transport arm is pivotally mounted on the frame, the transport arm operative to transport wire rods from the hopper to the wire bending section. The wire bending section includes a wire securement device mounted on the frame, the rotatable wire securement device operative to secure one end of a wire rod and rotate the wire rod about its longitudinal central axis and a wire bending unit movably mounted on the frame. The wire bending unit includes a wire bend head aligned with the center longitudinal axis of the rotatable wire securement device, the wire bending unit adapted to move on the frame such that the wire bend head remains aligned with the center longitudinal axis of the rotatable wire securement device. A control unit such as a programmable computer is operatively connected to the transport arm, the rotatable wire securement device and the wire bending unit to engage the transport arm to transport a wire rod from the hopper to the wire bending section, engage the rotatable wire securement device to secure one end of the wire rod, move the wire bend head to determined bend locations on the wire rod, rotate the wire rod about its longitudinal central axis to programmed positions, and engage the wire bend head to perform the programmed bend in the wire rod.

Wire bending apparatus

A wire bending device includes an upright frame and a wire feed hopper for dispensing wire rods. A wire bending section is mounted on the frame, and at least one transport arm is pivotally mounted on the frame, the transport arm operative to transport wire rods from the hopper to the wire bending section. The wire bending section includes a wire securernent device mounted on the frame, the rotatable wire securement device operative to secure one end of a wire rod and rotate the wire rod about its longitudinal central axis and a wire bending unit movably mounted on this frame. The wire bending unit includes a wire bend head aligned with the center longitudinal axis of the rotatable wire securement device, the wire bending unit adapted to move on the frame such that the wire bend head remains aligned with the center longitudinal axis of the rotatable wire securement device. A control unit such as a programmable computer is operatively connected to the transport arm, the rotatable wire securement device and the wire bending unit to engage the transport arm to transport a wire rod from the hopper to the wire bending section, engage the rotatable wire securement device to secure one end of the wire rod, move the wire bend head to determined bend locations on the wire rod, rotate the wire rod about its longitudinal central axis to programmed positions, and engage the wire bend head to perform the programmed bend in the wire rod.

A rotator is disclosed for precisely rotating a horizontally disposed, cylindrical workpiece comprising first and second workpiece rotator members which are vertically disposed and horizontally spaced-apart. Each of the workpiece rotator members has a gear rack provided at its lower inner end which is in mesh with a driven gear or shaft so that rotation of the shaft in one direction causes the first workpiece rotator member to move upwardly with the second workpiece rotator member being moved downwardly in a corresponding and equal amount. When the driven shaft or gear is moved in a direction opposite to that described, the first workpiece rotator member is moved downwardly while the second workpiece rotator member is moved upwardly. The workpiece is positioned between the workpiece rotator members and precisely rotated in either clockwise or counterclockwise directions so that the proper bends may be imparted to the workpiece after the workpiece has been rotated.

Apparatus for rotating a horizontally disposed, cylindrical workpiece

A welding wire dispenser for use on a spool of welding wire comprising a base which is removably secured to the top plate of the spool. A let-off arm is rotatably mounted on the base and has a guide tube mounted thereon through which the welding wire extends. A brake is provided on the base and is associated with a coil spring to tension or compress the same as the welder or wire feeder pulls the wire from the spool of wire. When the welder or wire feeder discontinues its pulling action on the wire, the tension in the spring exerts sufficient force on the wire extending from the spool to prevent the wire from shingleing.

Welding wire dispenser with adjustable brake

A welding wire dispenser for dispensing wire to a wire feeder comprising a floor-engaging support which has an annular brake bad positioned on the upper end thereof. A ball screw assembly is mounted on the support and has a coil spring secured thereto which yieldably resists the rotation of the ball screw in one direction. A shaft is secured to the upper end of the ball screw assembly and is vertically movable therewith. A coil support is rotatably mounted on the shaft above the support and is vertically movable with the shaft. The coil support is adapted to support a coil or reel of welding wire thereon. The coil support has a horizontally disposed annular portion at its lower end which is adapted to frictionally engage the annular brake pad to limit the rotation of the coil support at times. A horizontally disposed accumulator pulley is freely rotatably mounted on the upper end of the shaft above the wire coil. A brake arm is secured to the upper end of the shaft and extends therefrom for rotation therewith. A second pulley is supported on the outer end of the brake arm and has the wire extending from the wire coil received thereon. The wire, after extending around the second pulley, is wrapped around the accumulator pulley for two to three turns and then extends to the wire feeder.

Welding wire dispenser

A welding wire dispenser for dispensing wire to a wire feeder comprising a floor-engaging support which has an annular brake pad positioned on the upper end thereof. A ball screw assembly is mounted on the support and has a coil spring secured thereto which yieldably resists the rotation of the ball screw in one direction. A shaft is secured to the upper end of the ball screw assembly and is vertically movable therewith. A coil support is rotatably mounted on the shaft above the support and is vertically movable with the shaft. The coil support is adapted to support a coil or reel of welding wire thereon. The coil support has a horizontally disposed annular portion at its lower end which is adapted to frictionally engage the annular brake pad to limit the rotation of the coil support at times. A multiple arm assembly is secured to the upper end of the shaft and extends therefrom. A pulley is supported on the outer end of each of the arms on the arm assembly and have the wire extending from the wire coil received thereon. As the wire feeder pulls wire from the coil, the arm assembly rotates which causes the shaft and the ball screw assembly to rotate and to raise the coil support upwardly so that the coil support will freely rotate. A spring is engagement with the ball screw assembly for rotatably urging the shaft in a direction so that the ball screw assembly will move the shaft downwardly relative to the support.

A welding wire dispenser for dispensing wire to a wire feeder comprising a floor-engaging support which has an annular brake pad positioned on the upper end thereof. A ball screw assembly is mounted on the support and has a coil spring secured thereto which yieldably resists the rotation of the ball screw in one direction. A shaft is secured to the upper end of the ball screw assembly and is vertically movable therewith. A coil support is rotatably mounted on the shaft above the support and is vertically movable with the shaft. The coil support is adapted to support a coil or reel of welding wire thereon. The coil support has a horizontally disposed annular portion at its lower end which is adapted to frictionally engage the annular brake pad to limit the rotation of the coil support at times. An arm is secured to the upper end of the shaft and extends upwardly and outwardly therefrom. A pulley is supported on the outer end of the arm and has the wire extending from the wire coil received thereon. As the wire feeder pulls wire from the coil, the arm pivots towards the wire feeder which causes the shaft and the ball screw assembly to rotate and to raise the coil support upwardly so that the coil support will freely rotate. A spring is engagement with the ball screw assembly for rotatably urging the shaft in a direction so that the ball screw assembly will move the shaft downwardly relative to the support.

A welding wire dispenser for dispensing wire to a wire feeder comprising a support having a hub mounted thereon and extending upwardly therefrom. The hub has a horizontally disposed annular brake pad at its upper end. A vertically disposed and vertically movable shaft is rotatably mounted in the support and extends upwardly through the hub. A coil support is rotatably mounted on the upper end of the shaft and is vertically movable therewith. The coil support has a horizontally disposed annular portion at its lower end which is adapted to frictionally engage the annular brake pad to limit the rotation of the coil support at times. An arm is secured to the upper end of the shaft and extends upwardly and outwardly therefrom. A pulley is supported on the outer end of the arm and has the wire extending from the wire coil received thereon. A cam follower is mounted on the shaft within the hub and rolls upon a helical cam surface. As the wire feeder pulls wire from the coil, the arm pivots toward the wire feeder which causes the shaft to rotate and to raise the coil support upwardly so that the coil support will freely rotate. A spring is in engagement with the shaft for rotatably urging the shaft in a direction so that the cam follower will move downwardly on the helical cam surface.

A welding wire dispenser for dispensing wire to a wire feeder comprising a support having a hub mounted thereon and extending upwardly therefrom. The hub has a horizontally disposed annular brake pad at its upper end. A vertically disposed and vertically movable shaft is rotatably mounted in the support and extends upwardly through the hub. A coil support is rotatably mounted on the upper end of the shaft and is vertically movable therewith. The coil support has a horizontally disposed annular portion at its lower end which is adapted to frictionally engage the annular brake pad to limit the rotation of the coil support at times. An arm is secured to the lower end of the shaft and extends upwardly and outwardly therefrom. A pulley is supported on the upper end of the arm and has the wire extending from the wire coil received thereon. A cam follower is mounted on the shaft within the hub and rolls upon a helical cam surface. As the wire feeder pulls wire from the coil, the arm pivots toward the wire feeder which causes the shaft to rotate and to raise the coil support upwardly so that the coil support will freely rotate.
