A computer-implemented method includes opening, by a computer device, a global data dictionary on a virtual machine running on the computer device; running, by the computer device, a system defined class on the virtual machine; allocating, by the computer device, program objects that relate to the system defined class from an operating system onto the virtual machine; initializing, by the computer device, a system trace module on the virtual machine; collecting and storing in the global data dictionary, by the computer device, additional class data that was not originally abstracted, the additional class data being references to the allocated program objects; triggering, by the computer device, the system trace module in response to a trace event; identifying, by the computer device, particular ones of the program objects that relate to the trace event; and consolidating, by the computer device, the additional class data that corresponds to the particular ones of the program objects with abstracted object data that corresponds to the particular ones of the program objects, the additional class data being different from the abstracted object data.

Capturing traces of virtual machine objects combined with correlated system data

An automated method extracts the topology of a software application, identifies static and runtime internal code flow, data flow, dependencies, accessibility, reachability, and resource consumption characteristics of the application. The method identifies code refactoring boundaries, and helps to adapt and/or re-configure the software application into a set of microservices for deployment in a cloud environment.

Reconfiguring application software into microservice architecture

Methods and systems for an event-based virtual machine that hosts microservices are disclosed. A method includes: booting, by a computing device, a virtual machine and storing a first process state of the virtual machine in response to completing the booting the virtual machine; initializing, by the computing device, components of the virtual machine and storing a second process state of the virtual machine in response to completing the initializing the components of the virtual machine; preparing, by the computing device, to start a transaction in the virtual machine and storing a third process state of the virtual machine in response to the preparing to start the transaction in the virtual machine; in response to determining that a fault has occurred in the virtual machine, the computing device selecting a stored process state of the virtual machine from the group consisting of the first process state, the second process state, and the third process state; and resetting, by the computing device, the virtual machine using the selected stored process state of the virtual machine.

Event-based virtual machine that hosts microservices for handling program faults

Methods, computer program products, and systems are presented. The method computer program products, and systems can include, for instance: obtaining from a plurality of computing environments computing environment characterizing data; obtaining application parameter data defined by an application provider, the application parameter data specifying attributes of an application component group defining an application, wherein the application parameter data includes group membership specifying data that specifies that certain application components are to be deployed as a group in a common computing environment; determining, in dependence on data of the computing environment characterizing data and data of the application parameter data, a set of computing environments for deployment of the application component group, and a placement ratio for the application component group.
