According to one embodiment of the invention, a method for controlling access to a network by a network device comprises returning a message prompting connectivity to a captive portal that is different from a HTTP Source Code redirect. The message is an HTML document such as a frameset.

Captive portal redirection using display layout information

A network device to provide per-user firewall capabilities. The network device identifies a user associated with a received frame and a role of the user. The network device determines the firewall actions to be taken for the frame based on the role of the associated user. The user role may be dynamically changed by an administrator or automatically. A user role may be altered based on the authentication level of the user. The network device provides a system where a customized authentication experience may be provided for each user and services and permissions may be managed on a per-user basis.

Per-user firewall

In some embodiments, a network system includes an access point to wirelessly associate with a client that provides signals with traffic specification attributes to the access point. The system also includes circuitry detect if at least one of the signals violates a traffic rule through considering at least one of the traffic specification attributes and to instruct the access point to disassociate the client in response to a particular number of violations. Other embodiments are described.

Blacklisting based on a traffic rule violation

An association request from a wireless station is received at an access point. A determination is made whether a reservation threshold for a pre-determined number of wireless stations for the access point has been met. If the reservation threshold has not been met, the wireless station is associated with the access point. If the reservation threshold has been met, and the wireless station is not already on a call through another access point, the association of the wireless station with the access point is rejected.

Call admission control within a wireless network

Providing a single number presentation to the party called by a dual-mode phone. The operation of the cellular side of a dual-mode phone is altered such that when the user attempts to place an outgoing call using the cellular phone, the call is redirected to a preprogrammed incoming phone number associated with the enterprise. When the enterprise PBX answers this call, the dual-mode phone transmits the desired number to the enterprise PBX. The enterprise PBX then places the call to the desired number, and in the process transmits the caller-id information assigned to the dual-mode phone.

Single number presentation for dual-mode phones

In an exemplary embodiment, a method comprising determining locations within a site for a plurality of network devices and calibrating the network devices by each of the plurality of network devices. The calibration of each network device is performed separately and successively through the transmission of wireless signals by the access points.
