Methods and systems for providing software applications on a client device with dynamic control over low-latency mode (LLM) operations of the client device. The client device may monitor downlink data packets of a client software application operating on the client device to detect trigger events. The client device may determine operating parameters of the modem based on a detected trigger event and dynamically adjust the low-latency mode of the modem based on the detect trigger event or the determined operating parameters.

An operational mode of a terminal is dynamically configured to allow the terminal to receive services of interest to the terminal while potentially conserving battery power. The terminal operates in a first mode (e.g., an HRPD-only mode) and monitors only a first radio network (e.g., an HRPD network) for pages from a first data network (e.g., and IMS network) if all services from a second data network (e.g., an ANSI-41 network) of interest to the terminal is obtainable via the first radio network. The terminal operates in a second mode (e.g., an 1X-HRPD mode) and monitors the first radio network and a second radio network (e.g., a 1X network) for pages from the first and second data networks, respectively, if at least one service from the second data network of interest to the terminal is not obtainable via the first radio network. An apparatus and method for a centrally managed handoff comprising originating a service using a first technology and connecting the service using the first technology; activating a second technology that is different from the first technology; receiving a first request for the handoff from the first technology to the second technology; sending a second request for the handoff from the first technology to the second technology, wherein the second request relates to the first request; receiving an acknowledgement that the second technology is available; implementing the handoff from the first technology to the second technology; and determining that the handoff is successfully implemented before terminating the first technology.

Apparatus and method for a centrally managed handoff between two technologies

Techniques to efficiently search for a WLAN are described. A terminal receives country information from a wireless wide area network (WWAN), which may be a cellular network or a broadcast network. This country information may be a Mobile Country Code (MCC) that is broadcast by the WWAN. The MCC identifies the country in which the WWAN is deployed. The terminal then performs active scan for a WLAN based on the country information received from the WWAN. For the active scan, the terminal determines a frequency channel and a transmit power level based on the country information. The terminal then transmits a probe request on the frequency channel and at the transmit power level determined based on the country information. The terminal may perform passive scan and/or active scan in accordance with a scan setting.

Method and apparatus for operating in a wireless local area network based on information from a wireless wide area network

A preferred roaming list (PRL) carries system and acquisition records for wireless wide area network (WWAN) systems and wireless local area network (WLAN) systems. New system and acquisition records may be defined for WLAN. The PRL and system and acquisition records may be defined to be backward compatible with TIA-683-C. System and acquisition information for WLAN systems may be stored in the new system and acquisition records, respectively. Information used to perform encryption and/or authentication for WLAN systems may be stored in a separate WLAN authentication profile table. The system record for each WLAN system indicates a acquisition record and a profile record for that WLAN system. A network identifier table may also carry system records and profile records for WLAN systems. The system records carry information used for WLAN system selection and acquisition. The profile records carry information used to perform encryption and/or authentication for WLAN systems.
