A method of data communication includes receiving, by a first wireless access gateway (WAG), at least a first data packet corresponding to a first data flow transmitted from user equipment (UE) and receiving, by a second WAG, at least a second data packet transmitted from the UE. In response to receiving the second data packet, the second WAG determines an identity of the first WAG, and in response to determining the identity of the first WAG, the method includes establishing a tunnel connection between the first WAG and the second WAG. After establishing the tunnel connection, the method includes receiving by the second WAG at least a third data packet corresponding to the first data flow transmitted from the UE, and the second WAG transmits to the first WAG, via the tunnel connection, the third data packet.

Seamless handoff between wireless access gateways

Systems and methods are disclosed for an augmented Service Capability Exposure Function (A-SCEF). The A-SCEF may receive upstream or downstream traffic and direct or process that traffic in accordance with policy profiles. The policy profiles may be associated with various entities that may have interrelationships. The policy profiles may allow a network operator to better control multiple entities on the network while simplifying use of the network for the customers, such as those associated with a large number of internet of things (IOT) devices.

A system and method for generating Call Detail Records (CDR) to optimize network usage notifications to a mobile device subscriber. The system and method can include a billing system module that determines CDR generation parameters for the mobile device subscriber based on the mobile device subscriber's network usage, including increasing CDR generation when the mobile device subscriber's network usage relative to a predetermined quota is high and/or decreasing CDR generation when the mobile device subscriber's network usage relative to the predetermined quota is low. The CDR generation parameters can be applied to control CDR generation for the mobile device subscriber.

A method includes, in a mobile network comprising at least a core element and one or more evolved Node Bs (eNBs), receiving a request to initiate a progressive download of a video object, splitting the requested video object into self-contained independent video segments, transrating each of the self-contained independent video segments for different rates, and delivering a segment from a rate bucket that matches a current network condition determined by bandwidth estimation.

Virtualized open wireless services software architecture

A connection is established between an access terminal and a first radio network controller through a first radio node. The first radio node is controllable primarily by the first radio network controller. The connection is maintained with the first radio network controller as the access terminal moves from a coverage area of the first radio node toward a coverage area of a second radio node. The second radio node is controllable primarily by a second radio network controller and controllable subordinately by the first radio network controller. A connection is also established through the second radio node. Upon a fulfillment of a predetermined criterion, the connection is transferred from the first radio network controller to the second radio network controller.

The radio node controller of one subnet sends a communication to an access terminal over a control channel through the infrastructure of another subnet. The radio node controller maintains an open traffic channel with an access terminal when the access terminal moves from a coverage area of the first subnet to a coverage area of the second subnet and when the access terminal uses a carrier in the first subnet that cannot be used in the second subnet. A device receives information about signals detected by an access terminal, a first one of the signals corresponds to a radio node with which the access terminal is in communication, and if a second signal detected by the access terminal does not correspond to signals in use by the radio node and the access terminal, and if a condition is met, the devise causes the access terminal to alter communication with the radio node.

Radio frequency dragging prevention

A radio access network dynamically modifies a route update protocol of an access terminal in an active state that is in communication with the network, such that the access terminal reports a route update message upon satisfaction of a condition. The condition may be related to an inter-revision hard handoff, an inter-frequency hard handoff, a RF dragging prevention, a selective resource allocation, or some combination thereof.
