Nonwoven and elastomeric substrates having formulations disposed thereon, wherein the formulations have improved compatibility with the substrate, are disclosed herein. More particularly, the formulations can be applied on the substrates without compromising the elastomeric properties and overall integrity of the substrate. Laminated articles using one or more of the nonwoven and elastomeric substrates having the formulations disposed thereon are further disclosed.

A method of forming a post bonded loop laminate material includes providing a first layer of material comprising a nonwoven web of loop material having fibers and applying a force to the nonwoven web of loop material to generally orient the fibers in the direction of the applied force. The first layer of material is laminated to a second layer of material while applying the force to the nonwoven web of loop material to form a nonwoven loop laminate material. The first layer of material is bonded to the second layer of material after forming the nonwoven loop laminate material to form a post bonded loop laminate material.

Mechanical fastening system for an article

A mechanical fastening system for products, for example, an absorbent article such as infant training pants, in which the mechanical fastening system is a hook-and-loop type fastening system on the garment in which the loop material is a nonwoven material laminate which has been post bonded after the laminate has been constructed.

In a mechanical fastening system for an article, a first fastening component of the fastening system is constructed of an oriented nonwoven loop material. The nonwoven loop material is constructed at least part of an nonwoven web of fibers that is extensible from a relaxed configuration to an extended configuration wherein in the extended configuration a greater number of fibers of the nonwoven web are oriented in the direction in which the web is extended than in the relaxed configuration of the web. In one embodiment, the web is in its extended configuration and secured to a substrate A second fastening component of the mechanical fastening system comprises a hook material wherein the oriented nonwoven loop material of the first fastening component is adapted for releasable connection with the hook material of the second fastening component.

A mechanical fastening system for an article wherein a first fastening component is secured to the article within an attachment region. A portion of the first fastening component within the attachment region is mechanically bonded to the article, with a ratio of an area of the bonded portion to an area of the attachment region defining a percent bonded area of the first fastening component. A second fastening component is secured to the article within an attachment region thereof. A portion of the second fastening component within the attachment region is mechanically bonded to the article, with a ratio of an area of the bonded portion to an area of the attachment region thereof defining a percent bonded area of the second fastening component. The percent bonded area of the first fastening component is substantially less than the percent bonded area of the second fastening component.

A process for making prefastened and refastenable garments includes providing a plurality of discrete articles with mating fastening components disposed in the waist regions. First fastening components are separated from one another by an initial transverse distance. The waist region containing the first fastening components is modified to transversely displace these fastening components to a post displacement distance that is not equal to the initial distance. The process allows for convenient alignment of the fastening components to form refastenable seams.

Disclosed herein a personal care absorbent product which when first insulted, has a high initial surface moisture value which is maintained for several minutes but then, after a short period of time, drops to a lower value. As a result, the product has an initial 'wet' feel but quickly changes to a drier feel so as to provide more comfort.

The properties of (meth)acrylic ester/(meth)acrylic acid copolymer webs, such as films and nonwovens, are improved by blending the ester/acid copolymer with a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic acid. The copolymer blend provides a polymeric material which is useful for making personal care products such as diapers and feminine pads in that it can be made water-soluble while exhibiting other properties which are necessary for adequate product performance.

The properties of (meth)acrylic ester/(meth)acrylic acid copolymer webs, such as films and nonwovens, are improved by blending the ester/acid copolymer with a modified polyolefin, such as an ethylene/(meth)acrylic acid copolymer and/or a styrene/butadiene block copolymer, and a polyether block amide copolymer. The copolymer blend provides a polymeric material which is useful for making personal care products such as diapers and feminine pads in that it can be made water-soluble in alkaline solutions while exhibiting other properties which are necessary for adequate product performance. Such materials are also useful for packaging products, such as film for plastic bags and the like.
