In one aspect, the invention provides compounds of Formula I, and salts, hydrates and isomers thereof. In another aspect, the invention provides a method of promoting bone formation in a subject in need thereof by administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of Formula I. The present invention also provides orthopedic and periodontal devices, as well as methods for the treatment of renal disease, diabetes, bone loss, and cancer, using a compound of Formula I.

Fluoro beta-carboline compounds

In one aspect, the invention provides compounds of Formula I Formula Ia, Formula Ib, Formula Ic, and Formula Id and salts, hydrates and isomers thereof. In another aspect, the invention provides a method of promoting bone formation in a subject in need thereof by administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of Formula I, Formula Ia, Formula Ib, Formula Ic, or Formula Id. Compounds for bone growth

The present invention is directed to isolated polypeptides and antibodies suitable for producing therapeutic preparations, methods, and kits relating to bone deposition. One objective of the present invention is to provide compositions that improve bone deposition. Yet another objective of the present invention is to provide methods and compositions to be utilized in diagnosing bone dysregulation. The therapeutic compositions and methods of the present invention are related to the regulation of Wise, Sost, and closely related sequences. In particular, the nucleic acid sequences and polypeptides include Wise and Sost as well as a family of molecules that express a cysteine knot polypeptide.

The present invention relates to methods and compositions for the prevention and treatment of renal damage. The invention provides protein-based renal therapeutic agents for administration to subjects in order to prevent or treat renal degeneration or damage.

The present invention provides a method of promoting local bone growth by administering a therapeutic amount of a Sost antagonist to a mammalian patient in need thereof. Preferably, the Sost antagonist is an antibody or FAB fragment selectively recognizing any one of SEQ ID NOS: 1-23. The Sost antagonist may be coadministered together or sequentially with a matrix conducive to anchoring new bone growth. Orthopedic and Periodontal devices comprising an implantable portion adapted to be permanently implanted within a mammalian body and bearing an external coating of a Sost antagonist are also disclosed, as it a method of increasing bone density by administering to a mammalian patient a therapeutic amount of a Sost antagonist together with an antiresorptive drug.

The present invention provides a method of reducing body weight in a subject in need thereof, by administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of Formula I: In Formula I, Ris H, Calkyl, or Calkyl-aryl. The present invention also provides methods for the treatment of obesity and disorders related to obesity and higher than recommended percentage body fat, such as type II diabetes.
