A composition is provided that has a viscosity of less than about 15,000 cP and a pH of about 3.0 to 9.0 for treating a skin disorder in a human subject. The composition is a lotion that consists essentially of (a) a therapeutically-effective amount of at least one compound useful for treating such disorder, (b) a pharmaceutically-acceptable, lightly cross-linked polyacrylic acid polymer compatible with the compound, (c) a pharmaceutically acceptable base to adjust pH, (d) up to about 25% ww of at least one water miscible solvent, (e) optionally a preservative, (f) water, and (g) an oil phase component and suitable surfactant. The composition is useful for treating an inflammatory skin disorder, acne, or rosacea.

Topical gel delivery system

A composition is provided that has a viscosity of less than about 15,000 cP and a pH of about 3.0 to 9.0 for treating a skin disorder in a human subject. The composition consists essentially of (a) a therapeutically-effective amount of at least one compound useful for treating such disorder, (b) a pharmaceutically-acceptable, lightly cross-linked polyacrylic acid polymer compatible with the compound, (c) optionally a water miscible solvent, (d) optionally a preservative, (e) optionally an oil phase component and suitable surfactant, and (f) water. The composition is useful for treating an inflammatory skin disorder, acne, or rosacea. The low viscosity composition has an advantage of being administered more accurately when combined with a container that administers the composition as drops.

Topical low-viscosity gel composition

A composition for use as a sunscreen applied during washing includes photoprotective agents of the organic type (e.g., octylmethoxy cinnamate and oxybenzone), the inorganic type (e.g., titanium dioxide and zinc oxide), or combinations of the organic and inorganic agents. Additional components include skin penetration enhancers, emollients and surfactants. Additional sunscreen combinations include a sunscreen cleanser based upon triethanolamine (TEA).

Compositions suitable for the treatment of acne by topical application comprise clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide. Kits for preparing the compositions include a solution of clindamycin in a first container and a gel suspension of benzoyl peroxide in a second container. Each component is stored at a pH which promotes stability, and the combination of the two components provides a final composition having a pH which promotes stability and enhances viscosity.

Compositions of matter serving as topical ointment vehicles and comprising a glyceryl acetate, preferably triacetin, and an oleaginous material that can be combined with a medicament, preferably a corticosteriod, are described. The glyceryl acetate component functions as a solvent for the medicament. Additionally, methods of use for treating skin disorders comprising the topical application of a therapeutically effective amount of a medicament in a composition of the invention are detailed.
