This document describes an electrode assembly for use with a defibrillator, the electrode assembly comprising at least one electrode including a first surface that can be affixed to either of a pediatric patient and an adult patient and a second surface, wherein a majority of the second surface includes pictorial instructions related to use of the electrode assembly; and a chest compression sensor attached to the at least one electrode, wherein the at least one electrode is configured to be used on an adult patient when the electrode assembly is in a first orientation, and wherein the at least one electrode is configured to be used on a pediatric patient when the electrode assembly is in a second orientation.

A defibrillation electrode pad includes an electrode section and a CPR administration section. An electrode and electrodes for a biomedical system is provided. The electrode includes a backing pad with top and bottom surfaces. A conductive element is attached to the bottom surface of the backing pad, and a conductive gel layer covers at least part of the bottom surface of the conductive element. A bonding layer is disposed at least in part between the conductive element and the conductive gel layer. The electrode can include a leadwire with a stripped end length, and at least a portion of the stripped end length is disposed between the conductive element and at least one of the bonding layer and the conductive gel layer.

A defibrillator electrode pad assembly has an adhesive release sheet configured to be removed while the electrode pad is held in a desired position on the patient. The release sheet is folded in a substantially U-shaped configuration and includes a pull-tab to be grasped by the user. The electrode pad is applied to the patient by positioning the electrode pad on the patient's skin with the release sheet facing the skin and in contact with or closely adjacent to the skin, without lifting the electrode pad from the patient's skin, pulling on the pull-tab to remove the release sheet to expose the adhesive portion, and adhering the adhesive portion to the patient's skin.

A medical electrode assembly includes an electrically conductive electrode, an electrically conductive sacrificial element, and a layer of electrically conductive gel. The electrode has an electrical terminal to connect with external electrical circuitry. The sacrificial element is electrically connected with the electrode through an impedance element or a power supply. The layer of electrically conductive gel contacts both the electrode and the sacrificial element so as to form an anode-cathode cell in which the sacrificial element functions as a sacrificial anode that corrodes and the electrode functions as a cathode that is protected from corrosion.
