Disclosed are detergent compositions comprising organic diamines, anionic surfacants and amphoteric surfactants including amine oxide for hand dishwashing which, by incorporating certain organic solvents, results in a liquid dishwashing detergent composition that is not only a more effective cleaning agent, but also offers improved physical and enzymatic stability and more convenient rheology and handling characteristics than typical liquid dishwashing compositions.

Disclosed are thickened light-duty or gel dishwashing detergent compositions that are especially useful for the manual washing of heavily soiled dishware. Such compositions essentially contain an alkyl ether sulfate-based anionic surfactant, a polyhydroxy fatty acid amide-based nonionic surfactant component, a sud booster which is preferably an amine oxide, an aqueous liquid carrier, a pH control agent such as potassium carbonate to provide a relatively alkaline product, and an acrylic copolymer thickener such as Acusol&trade; 820.
