A degradable, removable, pharmaceutical implant for the sustained release of one or more drugs in a subject, wherein the pharmaceutical implant is composed of a tube comprising an outer wall made of a degradable polymer completely surrounding a cavity, wherein the outer wall has a plurality of openings and wherein the cavity contains one or more sets of micro-particles, which micro-particles contain an active agent or a combination of two or more active agents, and wherein the size of the microparticles is selected such that the majority of the microparticles cannot pass through the openings.

Degradable removable implant for the sustained release of an active compound

An implantable medical device, which comprises a device substrate, a coating on the substrate which includes a drug, and a protective layer which overlies the coating. The protective layer comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of polylactic acid, polyglycolic acid and a lactic acid/glycolic acid copolymer having a weight average molecular weight of not more than 40,000.

A formulation containing a biologically active compound having a chemical structure with hydrogen bonding sites, a first biocompatible, hydrolytically degrading polycarbonate with hydrogen bonding sites and tyrosine-derived diphenol monomer units, and a second biocompatible hydrolytically degrading polymer that is less hydrophobic than the polycarbonate, wherein the second polymer degrades hydrolytically to form acidic degradation products that promote the release of the active compound. Disclosed are medical devices having lubricious coatings which are capable of producing magnetic resonance image in the presence of a suitable magnetic field. The medical devices are easy to manipulate in body channels because of reduced friction with tissue surfaces and can be readily visualized in real time, which greatly facilitates the tracking of the medical devices while present within the bodies of humans or animals. The level of magnetic susceptible agent in the coatings of medical devices can be easily controlled by the present invention to give the desired performance. Coating processes to produce these medical devices are also disclosed.
