Disclosed are fibrous activated materials that can remove and/or deactivate potentially dangerous airborne agents from a gas or air stream. Disclosed materials are multi-layer materials that include a fibrous nonwoven interceptor layer and an active layer immediately adjacent the interceptor layer. The interceptor layer is a fibrous membrane of very low basis weight and defines a relatively low porosity, and the active layer describes geometries, chemistries, etc. that can entrap and/or decontaminate compounds contained in an airstream passing through the material. Disclosed materials can be utilized in forming protective garments, face masks, and the like.

Activated protective fabric

A nonwoven laminate fabric includes first and second nonwoven webs formed of spunbonded substantially continuous filaments and a nonwoven web of meltblown microfibers having a basis weight between about one and twenty grams per square meter sandwiched between and bonded to the first and second nonwoven webs to form a composite nonwoven fabric. The meltblown web includes a plurality of thermoplastic microfine fibers having an average fiber diameter of less than 1.5 microns. The nonwoven laminate exhibits good barrier properties and can be used as a sterile wrap.

Nonwoven laminate fabrics and processes of making same

The invention is directed to composite nonwoven laminate fabric having differential softness and flexibility properties. The nonwoven laminate fabric includes a polypropylene meltblown web sandwiched between and bonded to a spunbonded web of polypropylene filaments and a spunbonded web of polyethylene filaments.

Nonwoven fabrics having differential aesthetic properties and processes

A nonwoven disposable face mask includes a filtration layer formed of a plurality of thermoplastic microfine meltblown microfibers having an average fiber diameter of less than 1.5 microns. The filtration layer also has a basis weight of less than ten grams per square meter. The resultant face mask provides improved wearer comfort and barrier and filtration properties.

Meltblown barrier webs and processes of making same

The invention is directed to a composite nonwoven fabric comprising first and second nonwoven webs of spunbonded substantially continuous thermoplastic filaments, and a nonwoven hydrophobic microporous web of thermoplastic meltblown microfibers sandwiched between the first and second nonwoven webs. The filaments of the nonwoven spunbond webs are formed of continuous multiconstituent filaments which include a lower melting gamma radiation stable polyethylene polymer component and one or more higher melting gamma radiation stable polymer constituents, wherein a substantial portion of the surfaces of the multiconstituent filaments consists of the lower melting gamma radiation stable polyethylene constituent. The nonwoven hydrophobic microporous web is formed from a gamma radiation stable polyethylene polymer. The webs are bonded together to form the composite nonwoven fabric by discrete point bonds in which the polyethylene constituent of said multiconstituent filaments and the polyethylene of said third nonwoven web are fused together.
