An electrophotographic imaging member containing a supporting substrate having an electrically conductive surface comprising charge injecting material, a charge blocking layer including a water insoluble high molecular weight unmodified hydroxy methacrylate polymer and at least one photoconductive layer, the charge blocking layer having a surface resistivity greater than about 10.sup.10 ohm/sq. This imaging member may be employed in an electrostatographic imaging process.

Electrophotographic imaging member having unmodified hydroxy

An ionographic imaging member containing a conductive layer and a uniform and continuous dielectric imaging layer free of voids, the imaging layer having a dielectric constant of from about 1.5 to about 40 and a thickness of at least about 45 micrometers, the thickness divided by the dielectric constant having a value of from about 30 to about 60 micrometers. This member may be used in an ionographic imaging process.

Ionographic imaging system

A protective overcoating layer for an electrophotographic imaging device prevents crystallization and leaching of hole transport compounds in a charge transport layer of the imaging device. The overcoat also prevents solvent and ink contact/bending stress charge transport layer cracking. The overcoating layer contains a polyester homopolymer which contains a hole transporting compound and an aliphatic diol in the polymer chain backbone. The homopolymer can be either a meta or para hole transport compound ester linkage polyester homopolymer.

Polymers for photoreceptor overcoating for use as protective layer

An ionographic imaging member has a conductive layer overcoated by a charge accepting layer. Overcoating layers of acrylate, polycarbonate, polyester, polyurethane, acrylic homopolymer or copolymer and the like are provided. Blocking layers may be provided for preventing charge injection and reducing surface charge decay and bulk charge trapping. The charge accepting layer may be doped with a charge clocking material for preventing charge injection. The overcoating and blocking layers may be one and the same.

Blocking and overcoating layers for electroreceptors

An electrophotographic imaging member including a supporting substrate, an electrically conductive layer including at least a partially crosslinked polymer having a backbone derived from an alkyl acrylamidoglycolate alkyl ether, a charge blocking layer including a polymer having a backbone also derived from an alkyl acrylamidoglycolate alkyl ether and at least one photoconductive layer. Preferably, the backbone derived from an alkyl acrylamidoglycolate alkyl ether is a copolymer of methyl acrylamidoglycolate methyl ether and a vinyl hydroxy ester or vinyl hydroxy amide. This imaging member may be prepared by a coating process and employed in an electrostatographic imaging process.

Conductive and blocking layers for electrophotographic imaging members

A process is disclosed for forming at least one thin substantially uniform fluid coating comprising polymeric film forming material on a cylindrical mandrel, solidifying the fluid coating to form a uniform solid coating and separating the uniform solid coating from the mandrel. The process may comprise forming at least one thin substantially uniform fluid coating comprising polymeric film forming material around a cylindrical mandrel, the mandrel having a larger mass or lower thermal conductivity than the polymeric film forming material and a critical surface tension greater than the surface tension of the fluid coating, solidifying the fluid coating to form at least one thin substantially uniform solid coating comprising the polymeric film forming material around the cylindrical mandrel, heating both the uniform solid coating and the mandrel to a temperature at least above the apparent T.sub.g of the solid coating to expand the coating and the mandrel while maintaining contact between the coating and the mandrel, cooling the coating to below the apparent T.sub.g of the solid coating prior to substantial cooling of the mandrel, and cooling the mandrel whereby the mandrel contracts at a greater rate than the polymeric coating until separation occurs between the mandrel and the coating, and removing the coating from the mandrel.

Process for fabricating a belt

A process for the fabrication of seamless substrates which comprises (1) providing a substrate with a release coating composition thereover; (2) depositing thereon by electrostatic powder spraying a polymer; (3) melting the polymer blend; and (4) subsequently permitting the melted blend to cool. Thereafter, layered photoconductive imaging members can be prepared by the application, for example, of a ground plane, a photogenerating layer, and a charge transport layer.

Powder coating process for seamless substrates

A process for forming an overcoated electrophotographic imaging member comprising applying on an electrophotographic imaging member a coating in liquid form comprising a cross-linkable siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material having at least one silicon bonded hydroxyl group per every three --SiO-- units and a catalyst for the cross-linkable siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material, the coating in liquid form having an acid number less than about 1 and curing the cross-linkable siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material until the siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material forms a hard cross-linked solid organosiloxane-silica hybrid polymer layer.
