Curable compositions based on polyuretidiones, polythiols and photoactivable bases are disclosed. Also a process for generating isocyanate groups by exposing uretidiones to radiation in the range of 100-315 nm is disclosed. The process can be used in a dual curing system for curing compositions that comprise groups that under go photoinduced polymerizations and active hydrogen groups that react with the generated isocyanates.

Curable compositions based on polyuretidiones, polythiols and photoactivable bases and generation of isocyanates from uretidiones

Composition and process for low temperature curing of polyuretdione-polyol compositions in which the polyuretdione is prepared from a polyisocyanate with isocyanate groups and a polyol containing primary hydroxyl groups. The catalyst for the composition and process is an amine catalyst containing the group &#x2014;N&#x2550;C&#x2014;N&#x2014;, being aprotic, having a pKa greater than 20 and upon addition to the liquid coating composition causing a phase-change of the coating composition from liquid to solid at 25&#xb0; C. and 1 atm. within one week.

Low temperature curing polyuretdione compositions

Disclosed are low temperature curable coating compositions that include a polymer comprising functional groups reactive with anhydride groups and a crosslinking agent that includes the ungelled hydrosilylation reaction product of a silicon hydride and an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid anhydride. The present invention is directed to a coating composition comprising a polymer that comprises an oligomeric macromonomer and a core from which the oligomeric macromonomer extends, wherein the oligomeric macromonomer comprises reactive functional groups and has an average functionality ranging from 1.0 to 30, and wherein the core is &#x3c;10 weight % of the total polymer weight.

Flexible polymer coating and coated flexible substrates

A coating composition that can be cured by actinic or ionizing radiation is disclosed. The coating composition is made up of at least one polysiloxane compound one polysiloxane compound having the following structure (I) or (II):  wherein: m has a value of at least 2; m' ranges from 0 to 75; n ranges from 0 to 75; n&#x2032; ranges from 0 to 75; each R, which may be identical or different, is selected from H, OH, a monovalent hydrocarbon group, a monovalent siloxane group, and mixtures of any of the foregoing; and &#x2014;Rcomprises the following structure (III):&#x2014;R&#x2014;X &#x2003;&#x2003;(III) wherein &#x2014;Ris selected from an alkylene group, an oxyalkylene group, an alkylene aryl group, an alkenylene group, an oxyalkenylene group, and an alkenylene aryl group; and X represents a group comprising at least 2 carbamyl alkyl(meth)acrylate groups or 2 carbamyl alkyl epoxy groups.

Compositions are provided which contain (a) one or more polysiloxanes comprising at least one reactive functional group; a plurality of particles; and optionally, one or more curing agents comprising at least one functional group that is reactive with any reactive functional group of polysiloxane (a). Coating compositions are provided which are formed from components comprising (a) at least one polysiloxane comprising at least one reactive functional group; (b) at least one reactant comprising at least one functional group that is reactive with at least one functional group selected from the at least one reactive functional group of the at least one polysiloxane and at least one functional group of at least one reactant; and (c) a plurality of particles, wherein each component is different, and wherein the at least one reactive functional group of the at least one polysiloxane and the at least one functional group of the at least one reactant are substantially nonreactive with the particles. A multi-component composite coating composition formed from a basecoat and a topcoat deposited from the curable coating composition also is provided. The multi-component composite coating compositions of the invention provide highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings capable of retaining scratch resistance after weathering.

Coating compositions are provided which include a polysiloxane comprising at least one reactive functional group and at least one material comprising at least one reactive functional group. Also provided are multi-layer composite coatings formed from a basecoat deposited from a pigmented coating composition and a topcoat applied over the basecoat, the topcoat deposited from the aforementioned coating composition. A method for improving the scratch resistance of a coated substrate, as well as coated substrates also are provided. The compositions of the invention provide highly scratch resistant coatings, particularly highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings.
