Electrical cable connector

Electrical connector assemblies are provided that include electrical connectors having electrical contacts that have receptacle mating ends are provided. The connector housings of the provided electrical connectors include alignment members that are capable of performing staged alignment of components of the electrical connector assemblies. The provided electrical connector assemblies and the electrical connectors provided therein are capable of operating at a data transfer rate of forty gigabits per second with worst case multi-active cross talk that does not exceed a range of about two percent to about four percent.

High speed electrical connector

An electrical connector includes a connector housing and at least one electrical contact supported by the connector housing, the at least one electrical contact configured to mate with a complementary electrical contact of a complementary electrical connector. The electrical connector further includes a latch assembly that includes an actuator and a latch body. The actuator has an actuator portion and at least one arm extending from the actuator portion. The arm includes a proximal end connected to the actuator portion, an opposed distal end, and an intermediate portion. The intermediate portion is retained by the connector housing at a location below the distal end. The latch body is connected to the connector housing so as to rotate about a pivot axis. The latch body includes a latch member at one side of the pivot axis, and a spring disposed at a second opposite side of the pivot axis. The spring provides a spring force that biases the latch member toward a latched position. The distal end of the at least one arm is attached to the latch body at the second opposite side of the pivot axis, such that an actuation force applied to the actuator causes the latch body to pivot against the spring force so as to urge the latch member to an unlatched position.

An edge connector for receiving a first circuit board, circuit card, etc. comprises a housing having a circuit board receiving groove. A plurality of electrical contacts are arranged in the board receiving groove. An ejector member is provided for ejecting the board from the housing, the ejector member is translucent or transparent. A light emitter is optically coupled to the ejector member, so that when the light emitter is lit, the light from the light emitter is transmitted through the translucent or transparent ejector member to provide a visual indication which can be seen by the person inserting the circuit board into the connector.

A hold-down is provided for securing an electrical connector to a printed circuit board. The hold-down is mounted to the housing and/or arms of the electrical connector. The hold-down comprises a base; a first portion formed at one end of the base, with a first terminal extending from the other end of the first portion and substantially parallel to the base; and a second portion formed at the other end of the base, with a second terminal extending from the other end of the second portion and substantially parallel to the base. The hold-down pivots or is free-floating, and therefore, provides coplanarity among the terminals in the electrical connector and the hold-down.
