The instant invention is a polyurethane dispersion, method of producing the same, coated articles, and method of coating articles. The polyurethane dispersion according to the instant invention comprises (a) one or more polyurethane units derived from one or more prepolymers, wherein the one or more prepolymers comprise the reaction product of one or more natural oil based polyols dissolved in dipropylene glycol dimethyl ether in the presence of one or more first surfactants with one or more isocyanates; and (b) water.

Methods for producing crosslinkable silyl group-containing polyoxyalkylene polymers

The instant invention is an ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersion, and a continuous process for producing ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersions. The ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersion includes the reaction product of: (1) a first component, wherein the first component is a first polyurethane prepolymer or a first polyurethane prepolymer emulsion; (2) a second component, wherein the second component is a second polyurethane prepolymer, a second polyurethane prepolymer emulsion, a low solid content polyurethane dispersion, a seed latex, or combinations thereof; (3) and a chain extender. The ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersion has a solid content of at least 60 percent by weight of the solid, based on the total weight of the ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersion, and a viscosity in the range of less than 5000 cps at 20 rpm at 21&#xb0; C. using spindle #4 with Brookfield viscometer. The method for producing a high-solid content polyurethane dispersion includes the following steps: (1) providing a first stream, wherein said first stream comprising a first polyurethane prepolymer or a first polyurethane prepolymer emulsion; (2) providing a second stream, wherein said second stream being a media phase selected from the group consisting of a second polyurethane prepolymer, a second polyurethane prepolymer emulsion, a polyurethane prepolymer dispersion, a seed latex emulsion, or combinations thereof; (3) continuously merging said first stream with said second stream in the presence of a chain extender; and (4) thereby forming a polyurethane dispersion having a solid content of at least 60 percent by weight of the solid, based on the total weight of the ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersion, and a viscosity in the range of less than 5000 cps at 20 rpm at 21&#xb0; C. using spindle #4 with Brookfield viscometer.

Ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersion and a continuous process for producing ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersions

The present invention provides two-component polyurethane compositions comprising, as one component, polyisocyanate compositions of the isocyanurate of one or more bis(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane or, preferably, a mixture of two or more of these, and of the isocyanurate of hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI trimer), and, as the other component, a mix of a soft polyol having a hydroxyl functionality of from 2.5 to 5.0 and a molecular weight of from 500 to 3,000, and a hard polyol. Such compositions provide coatings, especially clear topcoats, which exhibit excellent scratch and mar and solvent resistance in addition to a good balance of hardness and flexibility without the need for increasing the volatile organic content (VOC) of the compositions. Also provided are compositions of a polyisocyanate compositions of the isocyanurate of one or more bis(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane with soft polyol which have lower VOCs.

The instant invention is a composite dispersion, method of producing the same, and articles made therefrom. The composite dispersion according to the instant invention comprises (1) a first seed dispersion comprising (a) a first internal phase; and (b) an external phase, and (2) a second internal phase; wherein the composite dispersion comprises more than 60 percent by the combined weight of the first internal phase and the second internal phase, and the composite dispersion has a viscosity of less than 10,000 cP measured by RV4 spindle at 20 rpm at greater than 60 weight percent total internal phase, and wherein the composite dispersion has a bimodal particle size distribution and a particle size ratio (P2/P1) in the range of 2 to 200.
