A method, apparatus and computer program product for providing IP multicast over split plane wireless LAN. An access tunnel (AT) is defined as an IP multicast interface at a first network device. The AT is capable of communicating with a second network device that is an Internet Protocol (IP) multicast receiver, wherein a local Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) the first device serves the second network device's mobility VLAN. The first network device sends a query to the second network device over the AT and receiving, in response to the sending the query, a report. A data structure is built defining a multicast group membership from the report, and multicast data is forwarded in accordance with the data structure.

IP multicast over split plane wireless LAN

IP Multinetting on a local area network is simulated by performing VLAN translation at a port connecting to the local area network. This allows IP addresses from multiple subnets to be associated with a single VLAN on the Local Area Network (LAN), while allowing the core switch to process the packets with a one-to-one correspondence between IP Subnet and VLAN. When a packet is received from the local area network at an IP multinetting port, the VLAN ID will be read to determine if the packet contains the IP Multinetting VLAN ID. The IP Subnet address will also be checked to see if the packet is associated with an IP Subnet that is part of the Multinetting. If so, the multinetting VLAN ID will be changed to an IP Subnet specific VLAN ID before the packet is processed by the core switch.

Method and apparatus for simulating IP multinetting

A method, apparatus and computer program product for providing Routed Split Multi Link Trunking (RSMLT) for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) tunnels is presented. A first and second network switch learn data associated with each other, wherein the first network switch and the second network switch operate concurrently. The first network switch terminates a WLAN Tunnel. The data is synchronized between the first network switch and the second network switch, wherein the data includes MAC Addresses, Internet Protocol (IP) interface addresses, Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) associations, WLAN tunnel assignments and Network switch Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Load sharing of tunnel data packets is performed by the first and the second network switch. Tunnel control packets received by the second network switch are forwarded to the first network switch over an Inter Switch Trunk (IST).

A method, apparatus and computer program product for providing failover for a point to point tunnel for wireless local area network split-plane environments is presented. A second network switch learns first data associated with a third network switch and the second network switch terminates a tunnel. The third network switch learns second data associated with the second network switch. The first and second data are synchronized between the second network switch and the third network switch. The second network switch and the third network switch load sharing tunnel data packets. The third network switch forwards tunnel control packets received by the third network switch to the second network switch. A failure relating to the second network switch is detected and a new tunnel is established with the third network switch.

Method and apparatus providing failover for a point to point tunnel for wireless local area network split-plane environments

A method, apparatus and computer program product is presented. A first tunnel is provided across a layer 3 network from a first network device to a second network device. A first virtual interface (VI) is provided on the second network device, and assigned to the first tunnel. Information related to the first tunnel and the first VI is passed to a third network device, which is a member of a cluster with the second network device. A second tunnel is provided across the layer 3 network from the third device to the first network device, and a second virtual interface (VI) is provided on the third network device, and assigned to the second tunnel. Forwarding information is exchanged between the second network device and the third network device. The second network device and the third network device provide forwarding redundancy service to the first network device.

Method and apparatus providing network redundancy and high availability to remote network nodes

A method, apparatus and computer program product for performing Routed Split Multi-Link Trunking Resiliency for Wireless Local Area Network split-plane environments is presented. A first network switch learns first data associated with a second network switch and the first network switch terminates an Access Tunnel (AT). The said second network switch learns second data associated with said first network switch. The first and second data are synchronized between the first network switch and the second network switch. The first network switch and the second network load sharing tunnel data packets. The second network switch forwards tunnel control packets received by the second network switch to the first network. A failure relating to said first network switch is detected and a new AT is established with the second network switch.

Routed split multi-link trunking resiliency for wireless local area network split-plane environments

A method, apparatus and computer program product for providing mulitcast failover and recovery which minimizes lost packets is presented. A first network device returns to a fully active state and starts a multicast hold-down timer. A first message is sent to a second network device, the message indicating at least one Split Multi Link Trunk (SMLT) Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) Identifier (ID) correlating to the multicast hold-down timer. The first network device receives an acknowledgment of said first message and Layer 2 forwards multicast data traffic to said second network device until the timer expires, whereupon the first device is capable of handling its own multicast data traffic, and then has Layer 2 bridging turned off and enables IP multicast routing. During the period of multicast hold-down timer, the second device will perform IP multicast forwarding on behalf of the first device.

Multiple non-conflicting actions associated with filter rules may be located and applied to a packet using a single ACL lookup by causing action records to be created from ACEs in the ACL, and then causing the ACL lookup to return the action record rather than any one particular ACE. Radix tables may be created to enable a search engine to quickly locate the appropriate action record based on a particular set of attributes associated with the incoming packet. The action record can contain multiple actions taken from multiple ACEs that apply to the particular packet. By grouping all the actions into an action record, and then searching for an action record that applies to the packet, it is possible to apply all non-conflicting actions to the packet regardless of the number of ACEs that are used to specify those actions. Since all the actions are located together, the actions of all ACEs may be applied to a packet using a single ACL lookup.

Method and apparatus for implementing filter rules in a network element

Systems and methods are disclosed of routing traffic in a network that include classifying incoming data packets using the content of the incoming data packets that remains relatively consistent during a network session. These systems and methods also include ordering the incoming traffic according to at least one internet protocol address comprised within the incoming traffic, hashing the at least one internet protocol address and the destination port within the incoming traffic, and determining a destination service module for the incoming traffic. Through these systems and methods, data can be routed without the need for complete flow tables.
