A network implemented communication system, comprising a Local Area Network (LAN), a plurality of endpoints connected to the LAN, each of the endpoints including a communication application for communicating via a standard protocol, at least one server connected to the LAN for third party control of communications between the endpoints, and software within each of the endpoints and the server for implementing features which do not require direct connection between the endpoints.

Network implemented communication system

The present invention provides a system, implemented within a private branch exchange (PBX) telephone system, which cancels or modifies a PBX feature for a telecommunication endpoint, based on activity associated with the telecommunication endpoint. The system comprises a feature/application module for executing the PBX feature. The system also comprises a line monitor for monitoring the activity associated with the telecommunication endpoint and can cancel or modify execution of the PBX feature for the telecommunication endpoint based on activity sensed by the line monitor. The present invention also provides a method for implementing the system.

Adaptive feature behavior

A call manager receives an incoming call and from this may generate a subsidiary call signal, which it directs to a first call reception component. For example, the call manager may direct the call to a messaging system. If the call manager receives an intercept signal from the caller, it may redirect the subsidiary call signal to another call reception component, for example to another recipient.

A system and method for accessing a party with a telephone over a LAN with user verification and dialing achieved by making use of handwriting analysis. A server incorporating phone agents and user agents is linked to software for analyzing the handwriting from a touch sensitive pad. The system and method prevents unauthorized access to a dialed party and ensures user validity.

Dialable user profiles are established via a software user agent in a telecommunications system for filtering mixed-media messages, including electronic mail and voice mail. According to the software agent of the present invention, the user creates, stores and retrieves a plurality of user profiles which indicate how inbound messages are to be sorted and prioritized. The user selects and invokes a particular profile which is appropriate to a given situation, such as remote computer dial up, pay phone dial up, cellular dial up, etc. The user agent resides in a message server of the data communication network and interprets commands from the user via remote terminal or touch-tone pad to retrieve and apply the requested profile.

A web based help desk includes a web server having memory storing a help desk web page. The web server allows remote user computers to access the web server via an internet or intranet connection thereby to access and display the help desk web page. A plurality of computers, operated by support specialists, are in communication with the web server to allow support specialists to communicate with remote users requiring support. The support specialists are selectable through the web page. A support specialist status application monitors the status of the support specialists and remote users requesting support and prompts the web server to establish a connection between a support specialist and a remote user when a support specialist becomes available. A method of providing support to a user operating a remote computer and a help desk web page are also provided.

Web based help desk

The web page generator of the present invention provides for automatic web page creation of an organizational directory for use in an Internet and Intranet environment. The web page directory is created from data stored in the directory application component of the web page generator and, after being placed on a web server, allows any individual who has network access to the web server offering the web page to view the directory information in a web page format. In another aspect of the present invention, the web page generator generates the directory web pages dynamically on an as requested basis. In another aspect of the present invention, the web page generator also provides for an interface to a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) telephone switch for automatic access to PBX functions through the web page automatically generated in accordance with the principles of the invention.

A user initiated soft call park with recorded voice comfort notification system for use within a telephony server for wired or wireless telephones. In response to receiving an incoming call, a user depresses a function key on his or her telephone set. The telephony server responds to depression of the user's function key by placing the incoming call on soft hold and generating a recorded message for indicating to the calling party that the call will be answered shortly.

Method and apparatus for managing calls using a soft call park

In a communication system, a programmable threshold alert system for indicating to a hunt group supervisor the relative number of incoming unanswered calls in a hunt group. Circuitry is provided for detecting the number of calls waiting to be answered and in response generating a level value signal representing the percentage of calls waiting relative to the number of active call answer stations. The level value signal is compared to one or more threshold values in response to which an output signal is generated for indicating the magnitude of the level value signal relative to the one or more threshold values, thereby providing an indication of the load on the hunt group.
