A technique facilitates improving a completion architecture for a multilateral intelligent well completion (IWC). Effectively, a new and enhanced completion design and deployment approach is provided for multilateral IWCs. According to an embodiment, lower completion equipment is initially deployed downhole into a lower lateral borehole and lower section of a primary borehole. An intermediate completion may then be run downhole and into engagement with the lower completion equipment. Subsequently, an upper lateral borehole (or boreholes) may be drilled and completed. After drilling and completing the one or more upper lateral boreholes, an upper completion is deployed downhole and coupled with the intermediate completion in a manner which enables signal communication with downhole sections of the well.

Multilateral intelligent well completion methodology and system

Wireless multi-stage completions for providing power to and telemetry communication with downhole device(s) are provided. A power generation system can be disposed along a production string to power downhole devices. The power generation system can be driven by annulus fluid flow or production fluid flow and converts the fluid flow to electrical energy. The power generation system can be retrievably disposed in a side pocket mandrel.

Power generation for multi-stage wireless completions

A technique facilitates verification of the integrity of a lower completion prior to deployment of a corresponding upper completion. A lower completion is initially deployed downhole into a wellbore and comprises a plurality of functional components, such as a sensor, a communication system, a flow control system, and/or other functional components. A service tool system is removably deployed into the wellbore and comprises a service tool with an interface which interacts with the lower completion. The interface enables verification of the integrity, e.g. functionality, of various functional components of the lower completion without the use of an additional communication line, e.g. power cable, routed separately to the lower completion.

Lower completion communication system integrity check

A seal assembly made up of multiple opposite oriented unidirectional seals. The assembly includes a dedicated test port for each of the unidirectional seals. Thus, a first test port may be directed at the first seal such that if the first seal leaks, the second seal is configured to collapse and allow a second test port coupled thereto to detect the leak of the first seal. By the same token, the first test port may be used to detect any leak in the second seal which is detectable as the first seal collapses as a result of the leak. This unique type of architecture allows for a reliable manner of testing a multiple seal assembly that may be prone to leaks from multiple directions, for example from either a bore or an annular side of a tubular. This renders the bidirectionally testable seal configuration beneficial for incorporation into downhole completions hardware such at the location of a test gauge secured to a carrier device.

A technique facilitates installation of cables in a variety of environments, including downhole environments. A cable is provided with a core surrounded by a protective jacket. In the radial space between the core and the protective jacket, a filler mechanism is deployed in the axial direction along the cable. The filler mechanism is designed to provide easy access to the core to facilitate coupling with various related components while limiting risk involved with exposing the core.
