A method and system are provided for wireless multimedia customization for different access networks with variable network conditions and device types. In one aspect, when a multimedia content clip is available, the clip is processed for transport by processing it in accordance with different options for the content clip in an optimized way that helps dynamic customization. For example, instead of preparing a version of the entire content clip, targeted for a particular network condition and target device characteristics, or creating a separate processed clip for each compression parameter available, a set of content ingredients are generated that can address a wide range of network conditions even through dynamic fluctuations in conditions and device characteristics.

Network adaptation of digital content

A method and system for wireless data communication. A request is accepted for communication of a data collection including a plurality of data objects. For each of the plurality of data objects, content importance and error resilience properties are evaluated. A transmission order of the data objects is determined based upon evaluated content importance, error resilience properties, past channel conditions and predicted channel conditions, and one or more data objects are selected based on the determined order. An error control level is selected for transmission of data packets for communicating the selected data objects based upon error resilience properties and current channel conditions to achieve communication of the data collection.

Content and channel aware object scheduling and error control

A method for monitoring a wireless channel or wireless network. Preferably, the method and system monitors a web-based network. Active data probing is used to estimate bandwidth availability when no a-priori knowledge of the current channel or network condition is available, and passive monitoring is used to track ongoing web traffic in estimating the current bandwidth available. Data probes are selected that are dynamically customized based on application requirements and the network variability observed in view of a balancing between accuracy of the bandwidth estimation and the potential overhead in terms of time consumed and additional traffic used. In this way, under specified limits of overhead, the active probing attempts to achieve best-effort network bandwidth estimation, and the passive monitoring tracks ongoing web traffic in estimating the current bandwidth available.

Network monitoring system and method

Techniques and systems designed to dynamically control communications between wireless devices and an access point in a wireless local area network (WLAN) to enhance the quality of service (QoS). Described techniques and systems may be implemented to further enhance QoS in WLANs under IEEE 802.11e.

Dynamic adaptation for wireless communications with enhanced quality of service

Apparatus and method suitable for improving reliability of collected sensor data over a network. One or more transient errors are predicted and corrected using correlation of collected data. For example, sensor data can be collected from one or more sensor nodes in a network. A device other than a sensor node can use the data to develop a predictive model based upon inherent redundancy in the sensor data, and correct one or more later-received values deemed unreliable.
