A method, system, and medium are provided for increasing the amount of content that can be displayed to a message recipient relative to the amount of information transmitted. This can be accomplished by identifying series of characters that can be replaced by a shortcut character string. Although both the sender and the recipient can see the full text of a message, the amount of data transmitted can be reduced based on the difference in the number of characters in the full message relative to the number of characters after replacement of identified series of characters with shortcut character strings.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods that notify a current wireless communication network about a previous wireless communication network. In a particular embodiment, a wireless device wirelessly registers with a first wireless communication system to obtain first registration data. The wireless device stores the first registration data and wirelessly communicates over the first wireless communication system. The communications are then terminated with the first wireless communication system. After terminating the wireless communications with the first wireless communication system, the wireless device wirelessly registers with a second wireless communication system to obtain second registration data and stores the second registration data. The wireless device transfers the first registration data to the second wireless communication system and receives user information from the second wireless communication system. The second wireless communication system used the first registration data to retrieve the user information from the first wireless communication system.

Notifying a wireless communication system about previously registered wireless communication systems

A wireless communications device dynamically determines a number of wireless network parameters prior to data transfer to increase network efficiency and decrease delays during the transmission of a multimedia messaging service message. Before sending a multimedia messaging service message, a number of wireless network parameters are dynamically determined by the wireless communications device. Based upon these determined wireless network parameters, the wireless communications device determines an optimal file transmission size. The multimedia messaging service message may then be divided into one or more file chunks having a file size equal to the optimal file transmission size by the wireless communications device. The file chunks are transmitted by the wireless communication device to another wireless user.

Dynamic determination of file transmission chunk size for efficient media upload

A customized list of real-time conference participants are obtained by selecting one or more logical operators such as AND or OR and applying the one or more logical operators to conference groups the user has selected. The logical operators and selected conference groups are sent to a conference server, which applies the operator to the selected groups to arrive at a shortlist of conference participants. The invention is particularly useful for cellular telephones initiating a real-time conference using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and a SIP server resident on a network.

Customized grouping of participants in real-time conference set-up

A method, system, and medium are provided for suppressing a Short Message Service (SMS) induced Denial of Service (DoS) attack on a telecommunications network. A register is updated to include information relevant to SMS messages that are requested to be communicated by way of a wireless telecommunications network. The register includes information of the location where the target devices of SMS messages are located. The register is utilized to detect an SMS induced DoS attack. A trigger is communicated to an SMS router to enable a DoS mode that restricts the communication of SMS messages. In an exemplary embodiment, only those SMS messages identified as part of the DoS attack are restricted.

Detection and suppression of short message service denial of service attacks

An instant message delivery system includes a network node with a packet queue. The packet queue stores packets containing instant messages. When the system detects network congestion, it merges two or more packets where possible to make a single packet. In particular, when two or more data packets contain instant messages with the same recipient, the system merges the data packets into a single data packet with multiple instant messages. When two or more data packets have instant messages with the same recipient and the same sender, the system merges the data packets into a single data packet and further merges the instant messages into a single instant message containing more than one message body.

A system, method, and computer-readable media are described for allowing a user to specify a desired time of delivery for a message (e.g., MMS message, SMS message). In one embodiment, a user interface is provided that allows the user to set a desired time of delivery while composing the message. The desired time of delivery is then included in the message. The recipient device places the message in a hidden folder until the desired time of delivery. Also, a messaging center may wait to deliver a messaging-waiting notification to the recipient until a low network usage period.

Disclosed herein is a method for data communication between a wireless-communication system and one or more wireless-communication devices. The wireless-communication system broadcasts a standard pilot signal over a pilot channel. The method comprises (a) the wireless-communication system transmitting a first broadcast-mode message in a coverage area of the wireless-communication system, wherein the first broadcast-mode message indicates that the wireless-communication system will be operating in an alternative broadcast mode, and (b) the wireless-communication system operating in the alternative broadcast mode. Operating in the alternative broadcast involves (i) generating a modified pilot signal comprising the standard pilot signal and a data message inserted in the standard pilot signal and (ii) broadcasting the modified pilot signal via the pilot channel, which enables a wireless-communication device receiving the modified pilot signal to extract the data message therefrom.

A method and system for distributing data from one or more main data sources to one or more consumer nodes. An abstract data matrix layer is provided between a producer layer and a consumer layer. A producer node multicasts data updates to selected data matrix nodes in the data matrix layer, and a consumer node registers with the data matrix layer to receive designated data updates. One or more data matrix nodes then serve the requested data updates on the requesting consumer node.

Data matrix method and system for distribution of data

Users of the system are each provided with an indicator module capable of presenting a display. An authorization module keeps track of which users are authorized to access a facility, such as a secured area or a parking facility. The authorization module sends messages, such as SMS messages, to the authorized indicator modules directing them to present a common valid display. The common valid display changes repeatedly over time, but, at any one time, the modules of authorized users all present the same display. A user may be granted or denied access based on whether the display on his module is the same as that of known authorized modules.

An instant message delivery system includes a network interface for sending and receiving instant messages and a message queue. The system sorts instant messages by determining a priority weight for received messages. The priority weight of a message is determined by considering such characteristics as the size of the message, whether the sender is in a 'buddy list' of the recipient, whether the recipient is in a 'buddy list' of the sender, and/or whether the message has been marked as &#x201c;urgent&#x201d; by the sender. The received messages are then inserted into the queue at a position determined by their respective priority weights and are sent by the system in the order determined by their positions in the queue.

System and method for sorting instant messages

A method and system for controlling the scope of user participation in an ongoing communication session. A communication controller receives a predefined control signal, such as from one of the conference participants, during the ongoing session. The control signal indicates a request to change the scope of participation of at least one user in the session. In response, the server changes the scope of participation of at least one user, while retaining participation of that user in the session. For instance, the request may be to switch one of the users to a listen-only mode, and the server may respond accordingly.
