A multilayer thermoplastic film, and packages made from the film, comprising a layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) as an oxygen barrier layer, a layer of a polymer or copolymer formed by the polymerization reaction with a single site catalyst and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) as a sealant layer, and alternatively containing a layer of EVA, said film having improved sealability and improved clarity as compared to conventional films.

Multi-layer thermoplastic films and packages made therefrom

The present invention relates to sealant films comprising a first sealant layer which readily and easily delaminates or peels from a second adjacent film layer. The first sealant layer and the second adjacent layer of the sealant film of the present invention comprise propylene or ethylene moieties wherein the propylene or ethylene moieties may be homopolymers or copolymers. The film structures of the present invention can be used independently, or laminated to a second film structure wherein the second film structure may comprise a single layer or multiple layers. The sealant films of the present invention can be heat sealed to a packaging component, such as a tray either as a single film structure or as a laminate comprising a second film structure. The sealant film structures of the present invention are particularly useful as retortable lidstock.

Easy peel film structures

An easy open tear control package, preferably a pouch, from a film of polymeric barrier material is disclosed. Methods and films for making of such packages are also disclosed. The easy open tear control feature arises from roughening portions of the outer or inner surface of the films, prior to fabricating into the package. The roughened portion is on one face or on each face of the package and is at least a full width of a seal when the film is made into the package. The roughened portion can extend the entire width of the package and can be of any desired length. A preferred film is a continuous extrusion laminated film comprising, a plurality of superimposed layers which comprise from outer surface to inner surface, a first layer of polyester, a second layer comprising a vinylidene chloride copolymer, preferably a vinylidene chloride methyl acrylate copolymer, a third layer of ink, a fourth layer of primer, a fifth layer of low density polyethylene, a sixth layer of ethylene vinyl acetate, and seventh and eighth layers each of an ionmer resin.

Improved polymer additive concentrate compositions used in nylon film layers. The improved concentrate comprises a carrier of a nylon polymer composition and the additive material. Preferred nylons include nylon 6; nylon 6,66; nylon 6,6; and combinations thereof. Preferred additives are antiblock agents and slip agents. The film layers may comprise a single layer nylon film, or may be part of a multiple layer composition. The films are susceptible to being used in making packaging.

Improved polymer additive concentrate compositions used in nylon film layers. The improved concentrate comprises a carrier of a nylon polymer composition and the additive material. Preferred nylons includes nylon 6; nylon 6,66; nylon 6,6; and combinations thereof. Preferred additives are antiblock agents and slip agents. The film layers may comprise a single layer nylon film, or may be part of a multiple layer composition. The films are susceptible to being used in making packaging.

A novel composition of matter having surprising physical properties when fabricated into multiple layer films is disclosed. The composition is generally a blend of nylon 6 with a nylon copolymer comprised of nylon 6 and a second nylon polymer. The second nylon polymer is 2.5 to 10 mole percent of the overall composition. The remaining 97.5% to 90% of the composition is the nylon 6 and the nylon 6 component of the copolymer. The nylon composition may be comprised entirely of a nylon copolymer having 90% to 97.5% nylon 6 and 10% to 2.5% of a second nylon polymer. The multiple layer films fabricated with the nylon compositions show unexpected range of thermoforming and heat sealing capabilities and good heat resistance, similar to that of nylon 6.

A multi-layer laminated meat package is disclosed which has a panel of the bag adapted for clear sight of the meat inside and another portion of the bag which has a boneguard panel constructed to resist puncture when drawn firmly over protruding bones in the meat. The bag is adapted to be evacuated after insertion of the meat so as to be drawn tightly over the meat, and to have the open end of the bag thereafter heat sealed together to complete the package. In addition, all interior surfaces of the bag are formed of heat sealable materials such that the completed package can be post heated after insertion of the meat to seal areas of the bag which have been drawn together during the evacuation. Embodiments of the bag are disclosed which have more than 50% of the surface of the bag covered by a boneguard panel. Boneguard panels which include a relatively thick layer of foamed plastic are also disclosed.
