The improved integral keyboard and storage organizer of the present invention provides a keyboard with a housing that can be hingably or slideably opened to access an integral storage organizer and has latches to maintain it in a closed arrangement, has a locking mechanism to secure the contents and has a separate access compartment for replacement of batteries and access to electronic components.

The integral keyboard and storage organizer of the present invention provides a keyboard with a housing that can be hingably or slideably opened to access an integral storage organizer cavity. It provides for convenient organized storage of traditional desktop supplies, sundry computer related items and personal items, at no appreciable additional cost to that of a standard keyboard, and without occupying any valuable desktop space in addition to that required by the footprint of the keyboard.

An unattended bicycle rental and security system, utilizing bi-directional communications with data verification between the individual bicycles and the system is provided which is equipped with an alarm, and can individually identify a number of bicycles and attribute their rental with corresponding customers. The unattended bicycle rental and security system is able to identify if a rental bicycle has sustained an impact during a rental that is sufficient to damage it and identify the customer whose care the rental bicycle was in at the time. The system also allows the integration of several rental locations allowing a bicycle to be rented at one location and returned at another.

A pointing device comprises a substrate having a fixed pivoting hole area defined by a hole through a conductive surface that is coated with electrically conductive material and comprises four segments of patterned resistive materials. Each segment includes a plurality of spaced thick film pieces that may include radially extending strips, substantially Rectangular blocks, or substantially circular pieces. An electrically conductive force disc is supported by is a movable conductive spring or sheath to pivot relative to the pivoting hole area and rotate over the resistive surface of the substrate. The deflection of the conductive spring allows the force disc to contact portions of the conductors of the substrate, and the spring or sheath to contact portions of the conductors inside the pivoting hole area, generating electrical outputs to a microcontroller.

A low cost analog deflection sensor assembled from a single component part which lends itself for use as a joystick. A central contact is surrounded by peripheral contacts and aligned by a dielectric spacer. Application of deflectional force results in one or more signals of measurable resistance which can be translated into speed and directional vectors.

A low-cost miniature joystick pointing device with improved performance, which may be mass produced from a small number of component parts, and which lends itself to production by automated machinery. An inner conductive contact is disposed inside of and surrounded by one or more outer contacts where deflection of the inner or outer contact results in a measurable resistance which may be interpreted by analog to digital or RC timing circuitry to produce speed and directional output.

A curved disc joystick or pad with improved performance, reliability and durability can be used as a cursor pointing device for computers, remote controls, video games, consumer electronics, industrial controllers, automotive and other applications. A conductive spring or sheath connects to a conductive curved rubber transducer which can be deflected to make contact with conductors on a printed circuit board, providing electrical outputs to a microprocessor or other device. A ribbed locking extension may be added to automate the assembly process. In addition, a collar may be provided to produce a controllable product, both in terms of manufacturing and performance.

A novel joy stick in which arcuate shaped resistors are biased against conductive coil carried by a ball. The arcuate shaped resistors have electrical contacts that extend from them. Tactile feel is obtained by providing detent means that give the ball a suitable feel as it is moved.

A joy stick has a handle attached to a ball-shape member which is formed with a groove below its largest diameter into which an electrical conductive spring is mounted. The ball is mounted in a spherical cavity upon which are formed resistive paths which are engageable by the spring on the ball. The ball is moveable such that the spring can vary the resistance on the resistive paths so as to provide electrical signals which indicated any time the position of the ball relative to the socket.

A security system for bicycles, ski racks and coat racks which includes a control in which a user can place a specific code for the specific lock which is to be used after which a free end of the cable can be passed through the device to be secured such as a bicycle, coat or a pair of skis and then inserted into the receptacle which locks. The security system includes an alarm when the cable carries either an electrical, a fibre optic or a pneumatic line such that if the cable is severed by a thief that an alarm system will instantly be actuated so as to prevent the theft. The user can release the cable by entering the known code when the article is to be removed which allows the one end of the cable to be unlocked from its holding socket.

A joystick controller for generating analog signals representative of coordinate positions is characterized by a pair of members movable in orthogonal directions by a handle. Each member carries at least one wiper contact adapted to slide linearly along an associated linearly extending resistor carried on a circuit board to generate the signals representative of coordinate positions. The use of linearly extending resistors for generating the signals, as compared with rotary potentiometers, provides for a reduction in size of the joystick controller, economies in its manufacture, and a high degree of linearity between handle positions and the signals generated.
